  • A Racing XS11!

    Hey folks,

Patrick from France sent me some very interesting photos of a very modified XS, designed for a 24 hour race! Looks like about the only thing that resembles the XS11 is the ENGINE!? So here they are, he thinks it'll stimulate some interesting discussions!

It's running a dual TCI dual Spark plug per cylinder setup! The Engine looks to be part of the frame! The steering looks bizarre.

It looks similar to the set-up some BMW's are using

The carbs are webbers. There is a company in Gilroy, Ca that can supply them. I think they are probably 32mm sidedrafts. They could be as big as 36mm.
Just my guess from the pictures, and my experience with webbers.

I think it's really cool. Totally awsome.
                But I gotta ask why?
So much time and trouble to use the xs engine for something like this. Is it because of the race category or something? Why the choice to use the xs engine?!!

                  Well,
Patrick is on weekend time this Monday/Tuesday, and stays in a very old country place, no technology, so he won't be reading this till Wednesday. Then perhaps he can chime in with more info on the mods. What I posted was all he had told me!?

As stated, it was a 24 hours race, and WE ALL know how dependable the XS11 is, perhaps that's why they chose to modify it. Don't know how old it is, or what year it was created, perhaps the early 80's!?

What I'm curious about is the narrower right alternator side!? It looks even more narrower than the XJ's!? There's another shock under the tank/seat running right where the battery would be! I wonder if that's a Magneto type generator, and if they got rid of the battery, and if that's so, then that's interesiting with regards to the TCI, and it's ability to function. I thought racers used a mechanism to spin the rear wheel to essentially "PUSH" start it?!

TC, check behind the seat area. I think the battery was moved there. The Monoshock is in the battery location. I did see it still has the starter, or at least the covers. On a 24 hour bike, you would want a self starter, in case you went down you can restart and go.
Looking at the alternator side, I would say they probably picked up a "small" unit off of another bike, to keep the clearance for the right hand turns! They don't need the amps a road bike does, so it would also drain less power.
                    Just my guess.

The lights are sorta hung on as an afterthought. Wonder if they ran without 'em during daylight and mounted them for the night portion of the 24 hrs. It would clean up the front aerodynamics. Hey T. C. I know 3 French guys, 2 of 'em are named Patrick. What are the odds of that...and your Patrick makes 3 out of 4...I also know a guy named T.C...aww forget it!

                              Endurance bike..

Wheres the case savers or sliders? 1 drop and oil slick or no spark pickup. The front end took some work. Would have been simpler to take a fzr or canadian gsxr upside down forks, for the adjustability and ridgitity. Other than that I want 1. How much $? This the type of modifing I like to see. Push that envelope!!!!
