  • another newbie looking for some advise and parts and pictures

Hi Guys, I'm a newbie to the community. I was recently given a 1980 XS Eleven special (made in 9/79). It only has a little over 3K miles on it. I need to track down carb intake boots and carb rebuild kits. I'm also looking for a few pictures to determine if I have the right seat. I think it doesn't fit right and just want to be sure it's the right one. I also need a grab bar if anyone is looking to sell one. I couldn't believe this bike was in such good shape for the age. It has newer tires and few dings in the poorly painted tank and side covers.I plan to tear it down over the winter and rebuild it. I just need to get familiar with what parts are for my bike. Would mine be the "S" or the "F"? I'm not sure how to determine that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm really interested in learning about all the aftermarket/OEM accessories as well but want to keep all the original stock parts as well. I'll have to determine if it's worth it to modify, for my own compfort, or just go wild.
    Thanks, Ron

One more thing, how do I post a picture of my bike here?

Welcome to the site! There is a Pictures link on the left hand side of the page. It has some great shots of the bikes as well as a few of the actual Yamaha ads from that era. I use E-Bay for a lot of parts as well as some of the companies in the Links link.

Look at the frame at the steering head, and get the frame number from there. Then go to "Specifications" over there on the left and look up the serial number to which bike you have. An 80 special would be a SG, a 79 would be a SF. There were notable changes in 80, so you really need to know which you have.

The Yamaha site also has the parts manual on line for your browsing pleasure.
