  • My '79 or '80 XS 1100 Special

Hi all, I'm brand new to this community and am amazed by all the support here. I have what I thought to be a '79 XS100 but after looking at the pictures section of this site, I think its a '80. I'm including a picture just because it came out so great, and like others have said, this picture makes the bike look better than it really is

This is my 2nd Yamaha XS, first being a 750 Midnight Special that I sold about 5 years ago (should have kept it). I do love the bike, and will be reading the forums here for ideas and help with maintenance. Anyhow, nice to meet you all and here is the pic.

That is a NICE looking bike. This site is probably the best source of information available. If you check you serial number, you can find out what year the bike was built. a search in the Specifications should help with that.
    Welcome and happy riding!

By the looks of the grab bar and the sloted disks my guess is an 80 sold new in 79.
It's an 80 LG My Midnight Ride

          Yup,

looks like an '80. 79 had a different grab bar and the 81 had different side cover emblems.

The year should show on the frame tag at the steering head.

Can't forget the tail luight. The 79's tail light was mounted on the lower part of the rear fender with two small red reflectors next to it. the lisence plate would also be mounted below the lamp. The 79 also didn't have drilled/milled rotors. Also the 79 had a speedo that went to 160.

There is a pic of my old triple. I know this is a site for 1100's but I figured I'd throw in my old 750 for kicks

Also, thanks for all the great comments, I'll take a closer look at the numbers on my other bike and see what it says, I know on the front it says 1979 but like someone said it may have been built in 79 as a '80 model.

I work with computers all the time so it's easy for me, but if you already have a digital image, just use a site like http://photobucket.com and put the picture there, and use the Img code it has to insert the picture here in the forums as you make a post.

I send digital files back and forth all the time via roadrunner. I guess what's confusing is there was no link to a website to access yours and often others pictures, as there often is. I would rather not go thru the registration mumbo jumbo to store pictures at some remote site. Suppose I'm just looking for the simplest most direct way to get a single picture in a post! Thanks

                      ?

As a former owner of a xs750SF, I have to ask if the bike is actually a 750 or an 850. Everything about it says 850. Either way, it's pretty. Oops... this was supposed to be a reply to the 78-79 special post.

Ahh I see your point. Most new forums (even the latest version of this foum) has the ability built in to submit pictures within posts. That would elminate any 3rd party, but increases bandwidth usage (aka: $$$). I run the updated version of vBulletin over on my own site, RacketRadio.com
