  • 'just about to leave a 1st eBay NEG...

'won an auction for a Yamaha xs1100 exhaust 1100 special muffler.
In the description it said, "used but nice right hand side muffler with headers for 1979-1981 XS1100 specials"

I got in an accident in early May and the right side was "structurally modified" so I bid on a "right side exhaust" on eBay...

It got here today - and it's a *LEFT* side exhaust system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

********IF********** I had known this was a LEFT side I wouldn't have wasted my time!!!
...now I'm stuck with a LEFT side exhaust and STILL need to find a replacement exhaust........

If the guy has any integrity, he'll take it back! How are you coming along, Ron?

      Hey Uncle,

Well, I hate to say it, but there WERE pictures showing the pipes, and with a close look at them and how the headers run to the collectors, and the placement of the muffler frame mounting bracket, one can tell that they are for the left side.

Yes, he was wrong in posting the wrong side, but try contacting him first. THEN, if he doesn't agree to take it back, then post a negative feedback regarding misrepresentation and his unwillingness to work with you to resolve the issue!

Hate to say it, but it looks like shared fault to me too. The description was wrong, the photos were clear and obvious. I would request he take it back, but would just eat it if he is not willing. It was not a lot of money, and you should be able to resell it and recoup all or most of your money. If you leave him negative feedback, he has just as good a case for responding with negative feedback, and you both lose. JMHO

I got in something wrong one time (both our faults) and I made a deal to ship it direct to the next guy in line who had bid on it. The seller gave me full credit plus paid me back for the freight. Try and talk to him, most folks are pretty understanding and arn't out to screw anyone. Another time I bought a right side cover that was advertised as good no cracks but when I got it there was a crack from mount slot to mount slot. I emailed the seller and told him about it, he issued my paypal account a full credit within about 10 minutes. Thats the kind of guy I love to do business with. He even sent me an email apoligizing for the mistake and a tip on how to fix it so I could use it.
There's always a way, figure it out.

            resolution... sort of...

I e-mailed the seller last Friday - 'figured I'd give him until Monday or Tuesday to respond, since it was just before the weekend... didn't hear anything.
E-mailed again on Wednesday - it's Friday and STILL haven't heard anything...
...in the meanwhile I e-mailed the next highest bidder and asked if they would be interested in the LEFT exhaust for what they bid - I got an e-mail back from this guy and we're going to do the transaction.

WARNING: this person, protoparts, does sell XS11 parts from time to time... there are SEVERAL negative feedbacks on him, and he ALWAYS seems to find 100% fault with the OTHER guy.
I'm not going to leave ANY feedback - this person, IMO, is SCUM and I'd rather not get involved any deeper. Lesson learned: I need to really look closer at ALL the pictures on eBay auctions, and if I think the picture is "other than advertised" I will not bid on it.

whether their is a shared mistake or not doesn't matter if he doesn't respond to your emails. If he's running a business he should have responded within hours not days.
I'd leave a negative just for that.
I hate buying things from someone that doesn't exist.
If he was on vacation, his computer broke down whatever excuse he might have really doesn't matter. Its his duty to check email at least once a day if not several times.

                Rt side muffler...

Too bad you're a little late. I had a seft side muffler was bad, but the rt side was good. I bought Jardine 4 into 2 and threw both the old mufflers in the trash. I had no idea that they would be worth something, especially with the pipes cut off.

.. i say hang the pipe on the wall, sooner or later you or some one you know will need it.. or use it to trade for something you need

.. if you wait long enough you will come across a good deal on the other side ..use them or sell them as a set
                  spares are good
