  • My new (old) xs11

I recently bought a 79 XS11 standard from a neighbor that had bought it in 2003 and rode it to work every day, 220 mi both ways. I had 48,000 mi on it and several real issues like carb problems, rusted out mufflers, slipping clutch, really bad 2nd gear, really bad front wheel bearings, and several more things I can't recall right now. Thanks to this site and the information shared by others I was able to take care of all the problems before I was able to use the forums.

Now I have a good running machine and WOW is it fast now. I thought it was fast before I did anything to it and before I realized it was running on only three cyls. I attributed the bad sound to the blown left muffler. LOL I have sent a message to Tkat for a fork brace and maybe this winter I will do a complete restoration and take care of the cosmetics too.

I have installed Jardine 4 into 2 slip-ons, new clutch, fixed second gear, rebuilt the carbs, new wheel bearings etc and the only thing left is get a colortune plug so I can properly set the idle.

Again, thanks for all your help, even though you didn't know it.

      Hey Dick,

That's a great story! And that's what this site is all about, helping folks like yourself to get, rebuild, and then maintain these wonderful machines to their utmost potential! And along with the knowledge you've obtained, the satisfaction of doing it yourself, you now have the abilities to share in your experiences with others starting out like yourself. Hopefully you'll have time(aside from riding) that you can drop in and contribute to the group when you can?! Enjoy, and your welcome!
