  • XS11SG vs Harley Sportser 1200

Is there any comparison, my buddy has a fully outfitted (late 80s???) sportster with the 1200 and drag pipes. Mine is a 80SG 1100 with straight pipes. That is the extent of any engine mods on either bike, any guesses as to who will win?

I have a buddy with a 90 something 1200 sportster custom and I will eat him up and spit him out. the funny thing is, he gave me my xs 1100. he is the PO that caught the bike on fire and put it down! after I rebuilt the thing we ride together all of the time. I race him with his old bike quite often, and have never lost!

You'd probbably get more money for the hardly drivable, but thats bout it.
Don't try to race, coz he's gonna crash trying to catch up. Hardleys cant turn and brake, remember?

No contest. I had an 81SH and even though they're jetted pretty lean, it beat any Harley any day on any road.

I test drove every Harley I could get my hands on at four Americade rallies and I found the only thing they can do better than an XS is make noise.

A buddy in Rapid City bought a Harley 1200 sporty ( the last one made with 2 plugs per jug ) He got dusted from a stop at a red light to the next light. He also got dusted on the high end. ( he was doing all she wrote at 120, I went around him like he was going backwards. This was with a bald back tire, Carbs not sunk up, bad plugs and fuel line not routed right. His bike was in perfect running condition ( brand new, Just past the breakin )

.. one of the guys i work with has one of the new rubber mount sportsters, he has droped a butt load of money on go fast parts.. he can beat me up off the line pretty good up until about 1/8th of a mile than i start catching up but after 100 mph i kill him!
.. i would fear the vrod those go pretty fast but most of the people who ride them are wusses so never mind on that one
for all the money a vrod cost id be scared to wreck it too

The answer to your question is, "no"

but with the drag pipes on the HD there may be a chance you will still hear it for few minutes after leave it enjoying the fine aroma of XS exhaust.

The data I have for the V-rod is that it can pull a 1/4 mile in the mid 11's so do not race for pink slips againts this one unless the other guy can't shift worth crap.
I have a bike and I am not afraid to use it

I haven't seen anything posted for that time of the year, Texsive and Reno are both slated for late summer, fall!?

I'll attest to the speed of the V-rod, had a poor experience against one, but it was partly my fault, ran out of rpms, and didn't realize it, and it was a rolling 50mph start! I'm hoping for a rematch, and from a standing start!?

.. i dont know, vrods are long and low and they have a fat back tire, they hook up pretty good off the line part of the reason they have such good 1/4 mile times
i think you would do better with the roll ons

I rode a new (2004) screaming eagle big bore lightweight pig on Friday, lotsa noise, no go. I shut the thing off at lights because I didn't see why anybody else ought to have to listen to the loud piece of crap. I was moving it for an incapacitated pal. What a sled! Pure ego bike, all about making a scene, every move is a spectacle. My old XS would wax the pig's tail in a heartbeat, and the owner says the motor work on the pig was, get this, $8600! That would cover my XS11, ST1100, RL250 and RM125, plus the old mini-bike, and that's not buying the pig, just the motor! Harley guys can talk about idiotic fashion, and of course XR750's, which are awesome, but don't ever talk about value, performance, or riding enjoyment in the same sentence with HD. If this piece of sh** holds any resale value, it just proves how gullible Harley buyers are in the first place. I'll take on any sportster anytime.

                          v-rods

i can attest to the low 11's for the v-rod. Saw it in person at the drags,11.30somthin. I too can whip most all sportsters though. My bro also rides an 91' fx something or another with major engine work, cams exhaust carb work etc. He gets real mad when i smoke his@ss. and his has been dynoed at close to 90 h.p.

I own two Harleys and can say with all truth, that you will win every time against all stock HD's (Vrod smee-rod that ain't no Hog...lol)

Now the rest of you be nice, bikers don't care what y'all ride, Just ride.

Harely riders and wannabees and yuppie bikers, are all on an ego trip, but they paid for thier ticket, let them ride, don't fall into the crotch rocket versus rice burner versus brit bike versus American made, Versus HD (they do get thier own catagory) Crap.

Hell when they scare themselves enough, or the bike sits in the garage for 4 or 8 years, you and me are gonna pick up some awesome bargains.....(grin)

Awesome deals? A co-worker has a anniversary heritage somethingorother (it is a nice looking touring bike) but he's asking $22,000 obo.
I rode my $60 bike to Canada and back (3,000 miles) comfortably.
I'm not knocking HD's (any teasing is without malice, it goes both ways) but that's too much money for any motorcycle IMHO.
