  • cams cams ?

hi all ! I have a question. Does anybody know the vance&hines part numbers for those old cams that had produced that power we all live for ? my buddy has found some old cams at his warehouse but cant find his application list. (silly fool) My freshly boared 1179 cc xj needs to breath a little better ! any other suggestions would be very welcome !

I don't remember the part number, as it's been too long. If you take your old cams, match exhaust and intake with the new ones, you should be able to see if they will fit. The lift and duration change will probably be hard to see, as just a few degrees makes a difference.
    Just my $0.02

              Geezer,

The exchange rate is almost 2:1, US to pounds, so it would be close to $700.00 , and it says "CAM", not cams, so not sure if the price is for only 1 cam, or for the set!?

              But, what price performance!

A set of hotter cams would be nice to have but at that price, I can live without them...

                      cams

                      hi
denco cams 2 types mild camshaft no mods needed, but they sejust replace valve springs with heavy duty do not shim valve springs as valve needs full movement and will bind if shimed.
high performance cam.replace valve springs and cut valve pocket on piston bigger. part no 20-yr-100 and 20-yr-150

                      rc715 pro stock model
rc720 fuel and gas drag bikes
all cam kits with valve spring kits
                      web-cam performance cams
                      118 bolt in for stock
                      86b street and strip use
86c top end power for compertition
                      110 hot sreet engines
these also came with valve springs

so from all of this i say if you are changing cams you must also change vale springs for heavy duty

                      hope this helps
                      cheers

S.D. Rule of thumb for bike cams - more lift equals more torque across the range(up to a point). More duration equals more top end power with a corresponding drop in low/midrange. Extra lift with slight duration increase gives a bit of both(ideal for the street/road) Too high a lift and duration wont be suitable for the street/road. Also, if the lobes are too radical, the poor ole XS's shims can come to grief. Small under bucket shims and beefed up springs are ideal. Re-camming can end up being quite a costly tweak.
