  • I bought mine new!!

A few minutes ago I had this urge to ride the ol 78 XS I bought new in Feb, 78. So I thought I'd look online at a few sites. Found this one first. It looks great an should meet my needs just fine.

I've still got the bike by the way. I think I'll go have a look at er now. She's been in the garage for a number of years now, but with your help, I'd like to get er goin for next spring.

      Hey Willy,

I'm thinkin about 8 years. Maybe 10. BUT, and I hope it helped, I've kicked it over a few times a couple times a year since. I've been chekin out this site. It's like everything you ever needed to know about the bike.

      I'm very impressed.

          well Cousin John
i don't want to scare you
but mine sat 12 years, biggest prob was carbs and brakes
the bike actually started, with just freash gas and a battery
but wouldn't go above an idle
over 100 dollars in kits for the carbs
and what seemed like weeks of cleaning and trying
then rebuilt all 3 brake calipers and both masters
          another hundred,
this is just parts not labor
your dealer can get alot of kits and things but
your best friend is ebay, for parts
had to clean the tank real good
put small rocks into it and shoke the *&%%$ out of it
          rebuilt the petcocks more kits
exhaust was the worst, new original is about 975 dollars if they had it, they don't , i did pick up a set on ebay for 150 dollars
they were rough but, they went thru an inspection
check out www.afabonline.com they sell plans for a table lift
i built one, nicest thing i ever did, made the job easyer
but the 1-2-3 shift is impressive
          and well worth it
          good luck with it,
