  • my XS11 got destroyed tonight...

'comin' home on the hiway, lane # 1, semi in #2, a car accerated from the far right lane (#3) to get over into my lane...
the semi T-boned him, he spun around and hit me...

'found out a couple of things: I don't bounce well, and it had been raining, so the road divider was full of water - after I stopped hydroplaning I damn near drown... my leathers are ripped up, 'cut, 'bruised, and a spranged ankle.

the bad part was the bike was lying on it's side 'twisted', fairing, lowers, and windshield busted. The forks are in bad shape, and there were parts *everywhere*. My insurance is "bare-bones" so I know I'll never be able to replace the best bike I've ever ridden. ...and the "nice" weather is suppose to start the end of this week and after riding *every* day this past winter, in the rainiest season I can ever remember I'll be religated to driving my old truck that doesn't have A.C. or even a radio....

    OUCH!
Really glad that you're able to tell us about it directly rather than us hearing about it from someone else because it came out much worse. With a motorcycle, car, and semi all involved, the odds are not really good for the guy on the motorcycle.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Like it was said earlier, You are very lucky you hobbled away from it. Dam people get in such a hurry that they don't pay attention to what's goin on or don't have any concern for the safety and well being of other people. I saw alot of this when I was truckin' and am glad to not be on the road anymore. What the cage did is the main reason I started the poll/thread about common sense questions on a drivers license. Glad your alright. Find another XS/XJ and I'm sure that you'll get her built up just in time for late fall.

          GOD !!!!

So glad you are able to tell us about the mishap UncleSpot.....
Sorry to hear about the ride, but you are still upright and taking nourishment.

Damn, I don't know why people are in such a hurry anymore, but it seems to be everywhere.

Get well soon... a buddy of mine was in a bad one on Sunday, and he isn't doing well at all.
In the hospital in a coma, both legs broken, bleeding in his head and a bunch of internal injurioes... doesn't look good for him. and he just fought a bout with cancer.

Glad you are okay. There's another XS with your name on it somewhere.

Just glad to hear you're OK. I worked in a level one ER for years and saw first hand the odds you get on a bike. Very sarry about your bike though.

              Good God, Man....

You've stepped to the edge of the abyss and peered in....

Altough we sometimes act otherwise, and as much as we love them and coddle and care for them, the bike is still just a "thing". To live is not just a thing, it's pretty darn special. So glad your still in that category...

Look at it this way... Somewhere there is an xs11 waiting to be found by you and start another great journey, and you're both still around to enjoy it.

              Hang in there,

                Ron,
We get so many bikers and cagers from that stretch between Modesto and Turlock.
It's a daily occurance. People there drive crazy. I've done 100 MPH along there and still been passed (guess I'm as bad as the others).
Get with Tom on that Midnight Special and you'll be back on the road in no time.
You are one lucky one, you were being watched over.
What were you doing riding through tornados? (we never have them here but several photos of tornadoes were sent in to the news)

                  Ron;
I'm glad you can write this!! If you are only bruised and scraped, with a sprain, you are doing well!
Don't worry about the bike, it can alway's be replaced with another. It may not be the "same". but it will be close. The car driver should be buying your replacement bike, full cost! Get the CHP report, and don't settle with his insurance until you know you don't have any other problems.
I went through just about the same thing about 20 years ago, so this is from personal experience.
Hope to be able to ride with you by early summer!

Sorry to hear about your loss. I work full time in an ER and have seen quite a few that are not nearly as lucky as you. Really glad to hear that you are upright! Good luck in the future.

                          Hey UncleSpot,

So sorry to hear about your mishap, glad "YOU" are the one telling us! Those leathers and boots did their job!

Definitely take that idiot cager for all you can regarding insurance reclaimation. Your Bike was essentially an antique....that should get their attention!! Hate to talk badly about your broken ride, but hopefully the Insurance company will allow you to keep it for spare parts! You'll find another steed to fill your stable! Get well soon, and get back on the road on 2 wheels!!

Wow Unk...it's better to hear from you than about you. It sounds like all the 'cow' that you were wearing gave the ultimate sacrifice. Fortunately, all the water in the median gave you some lubrication, and you slid more than if it was dry. If the idiot in the cage is found responsible, then by all means, nail his sorry ass to the wall, and get all you can from his insurance company. Really glad that you are OK, and that's what really matters.
