Riding down the road today and made a wide left turn on to another stretch of road on my home. Fortunately only a few blocks from home.
After I make the turn, I notice a cage getting ready to pull out of a gas station, I turn my head to watch him and I swear he can see me, or at least I think so. As soon as I get to just before the driveway, I see him start to pull out.
OK, a choice now.
A) Slam the brakes and hope I don't have to lay her down
B) Change lanes and hope the guy just behind me and to my left anticipates my lane change and slows down so I don't go into the side of his car
C) Gun it.
My instincts say, C.
For the most part of my bike, it was the right choice. Bike takes off like a rocket. But all of a sudden, it starts to get louder. Then I realize as I look in the rear view mirror, the truck that was behind me has stopped and the car is still in the driveway, both looking at what I left behind, my muffler.
So then I had to pull over and walk back a couple of hundred feet so I can recover my hot, slightly scratch tail pipe. Fortunatley someone conveniently left a long piece of waht looked like some windsheild weather stripping there so I can run it through the muffler bracket and carry it back over to my bike. After splashing some water on it to cool it a bit, I put it across the hadlebars and rode home on a louder bike then I left with this morning.
I knew after I did my valves that my bike was running better. I just didn't realize I increased the compression enough to blow off my tail pipe.
I still have yet to check my compression to see if it got better since I did the valves. I wonder if I need too.
