saddlebags

Has anyone fooled around with trying to add saddlebags to their bike such as these. Most of the OEM bags that I find need alot of work. I am not really liking the look of my soft bags. I don't want a trunk, or fairing, although I would like a radio. Just seeing if these have worked for anyone.

or even these. the colors look like they would match very well the paint scheme of my bike. Just wondering how hard it would be to fab mounts?

Hey Travis,

The first ones brackets are not too clear as to how they would attach the frame!? Did you see my diamondplate toolbox conversion project? I made the supports out of plate and angle iron/steel. So...if you have a grinder, welder, then you should be able to fabricate the mounts. This is the reason why I made mine, cause I didn't want to spend the hundreds of $$ for a set, and also trying to find what would fit the XS11, and I wanted something a bit more durable than ABS or fiberglass!

yes, i loved the diamond plate tool box. sweet. I am looking for something a little more aerodynamic looking. I really want to paint my tank again, or add something to the existing paint, and would love some smooth bags that i could pain up. I am not scared of trying to make mounts out of angle. might be a cool project. i think i will re-visit your diamond plate toolbox post though.

yes, that gives me a better idea of mounting hardware. I think that I could probably fab up a couple of those. Not sure about the aluminum welding though, hats off to you. The harley bags are already out the price range that I would pay. I will have to think about it a little. Sure do like the integrated lights of the first set.

I've got a pair of those Vetters sitting in my garage collecting dust... I have a SG and the ones I got with the brackets are for an '80 G - so they sit...
oh well, it's almost summertime and I don't really need to haul as much as in winter (riding gear)

I have a set of Vetter mounts I took off my '79 F. If you can find the bags, they give you an option. They are the detachable type mounts, made for a '78 or'79 standard.
I don't have any bags with them, just the mounts. If you find a set of bags without mounts, you would be set. PM me if you would like the mounts.

hey uncle spot, are you looking to get rid of those bags and mounts? will they fit a 78 E ? I guess that anything will fit with a little "massaging"?

I paid $78 for them and would just like to get my money back...
