    You don't have anything to worry about on the fuse block. Yamaha switched to steel fuse holders in 1980 and that solved the problem. My 80 Mongrel still has the original fuse holder. The original miles are unknow but I think it had about 50k on it when I got it and I've put on about 4k more.

      a miniseries

      this is really turning into a saga... I finally (after all the research and help from you all on installing it) got it out and decided to mount it on the pan, and it won't fit! I even had an upholsterer look at it, it is the wrong cover... went back to the cycle shop, looked again in their catalog... it says "78-79 XS1100" as the description, nothing at all about a Special (chich mine is)... and the saddlemens number was XY156... on their website (I finally looked there) it is a XY158! Neither the shop or the distributor are too hot to help make this right, so now I am looking at having a seat guy add material to this cover so it will fit...

        Odds are you could sell it on fleabay and recover most if not all what you paid for it. This is a case where it would be better to start over.
