  • Iron Butt Award

I went out to get my haircut today. I was on my way out to my cage in the parking lot. On my way, I spotted a guy standing by a well ridden xs1100. I went up and talked to him and shared some stories with him. His name was Jon. We talked about some stories and history of his "Jon's bike."

Apparently, he bought his first XS1100 back in 1978 and is still riding it. At least the frame is original. He is on his 3rd engine. He claims he has ridden his in Xs of 1 million miles. From the looks, it could be true. He changed out his headlight bucket with a custom and put in a car headlight in it. He also attached a couple of cats eye lights to the sides of the headlight bucket. He says that helped him with some of his charging system issues. He also put a Special front end on it with a standard triple tree. He had a few other minor modifications on it like pod air filters, a second tail light from a different model bike (can't recall the model). It definetly was not in pristine condition, but it runs and he is proud of it. He says he doesn't call it a Yamaha, its a Jon's bike now.

Its nice to meet an original owner.

Sorry I can't write as nice as Danny when it comes to adventures. I just thought I would share something with the group.
Owned by a pair of XS11's. An 80 Standard and a 79 Special.

I met a guy here in Bisbee who is the original owner of, IIRC, 1979 and 1980 Specials, a daily rider and a parts bike. The daily rider is completely OEM, and while it's in good shape you can tell it's been a daily rider for 25 years- just the way it should!

The parts bike is going to Phoenix for a full workup, cafe-racer style :-D

Lin, if you read this and I made a misstatement, I apologize and please correct me.
