  • Valves needed

Doe's any one have 2 intake and 2 exhaust valves that are lapable they would be willing to sell?

I need these for my XJ I'm rebuilding (engine almost together, but just now doing the heads).

If I'm not mistaken, any year SX EXCEPT '79 will work. At least all the others have the same part #'s

Only 80 and up will work. 78-79 valves were larger if I rememneb right. Try this guy: Benelli6@aol.com. He recently told me that he has some NOS valves, and some complete engine gasket kits.

      valves

Thanks, I’ve just now sent him an email.

Actually, I think the '78-79 is smaller. I have a head I bought that was represented as a '80 special whose valves are smaller than those in my XJ. According to the parts microfiche, all 1980, '81 XS’s and the '82 XJ have the same part #', 2H5-12111-01-00 for the intake, while the '78's and '79's are 1J7-12111-01-00.

          Hey Issipell,

Looks like that should be Benelli6@aol.com from what I found in another thread/post!? An "e" after the "n", not an "i"!?

I just did a search, the "e" is correct, here's some more contact info:

            I reckon you're right on the '78 & '79 valve versus the '80, '81, '82 valve, but I think the part number is a typo - it's 3H5-12111-01-00 !

Speed & Sport or NW Vintage Cycles stock these (at $30+).

Your right, It is 3h5-. I've got the # printed out right in front of me and managed to get it wrong. The '78-'79 start with 1J7.

Boy, I missed on that one.I should have looked at the link for benelli6 before I posted it.
I know the valve size was changed for 80 and when I did my big bore, and I knew that the valves were bigger in the SG's engine. I just brain farted on that one. I have a 78E engine that I was going to do the big bore on originally, but then I changed my mind because I read that the 80 had bigger valves. I learned that Yama also changed to a shorter cam duration in the 80 model, off setting the increase in valve diameter. I have a set of cams in the 78's engine, and I just may do the swap later this year. As long as it doesn't cost too much...

Before paying silly money, check a yamaha dealer. Got one intake en one exhaust from them. Not too cheap, but nothing you can't afford.

I found a complete XJ head less valve cover that come off a running bike for $125 including shipping. New Yamaha valves, 2 intake and 2 exhaust would cost $105.12 plus shipping from Zanotti's. This way I'll have a few spares INCLUDING SHIMS!
