  • xs11 ignition coils

When buying aftermarket Accel coils for the earlier models, I believe you are supposed to get the ones with 3 ohm resistance. But for the 80 and 81 models, you should get the .7 ohm ones. Is this correct?

I also thought I read somewhere that you should remove or disconnect or bypass some little stock component in there somewhere when doing this coil "upgrade."

    I need a memory refresher.

Your 81 does not have a ballast resistor. Use the 3 ohm coils.

Earlier models hava a ballast resistor and use 1.5 ohm coils for a total of 3 ohms.

      Hey Stal87,

Randy is totally correct, and he's the expert on our TCI's, they are NOT CDI's, so you do NOT want to use the 0.7 ohms, you'll fry your black box!! Your 81 doesn't have the ballast resistors anyways, so it's a straight wire up using the 3 ohm units as Randy so authoritatively stated!
