I recently read the interesting saga of a young couple that set out to convert an old transit bus to a motorcoach, and travel the United States experiencing freedom and adventure. It's facinating reading, and well written to boot.
They finally had to give it up . . . dreams can die or change (or be modified) over time. But this one was killed. The totality of their experience and eventual conclusion greatly disturbs me, even though I've experienced many of the pressures they did.
(snip)
...I want to be able to blend in so that we can have the freedom to go wherever we want and not stand out. In fact, the more we can blend in with the crowd and not be taken notice of the more freedom we will actually have...
(endsnip)
Is this really where we have gotten to? Is this the pressure we put on our friends, families, and neighbors to conform? In this nation of individualists?
Is being "different" really so wrong?
Food for thought.

ps: The relationship of this topic to motorcycling is obvious (potatopotatopotatopotato)
