Marty is 100% right on this one...the stock 120 can be upgraded to a 130. Do a search on tires and you find a bunch of different views on which one is best. I used to recommend the Dunlop K491 Elite II but I think it's been replaced and is no longer available.Gary Granger

Hey Gary,
The 491 Elite II's are still one of Dunlops main tires. They have come out with an Elite III, but seems to only fit the newer sport bikes, wider lower profiles, not available in our fitment range!

Couldn't get elites here... the importer's a jerk.
So I got some cheap avons... roadrunner on the back (130/90-17) and venom (I think.... 100/90-19) on the front.
The rear one is a bit scary... couldn't get it to let go of the road. OK, 1st and 2nd gear excluded and XSive braking. Front the same. Dragged the centerstand a few times, a mm or so to spare on the tire.
LPIf it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.

I does look like the E3 bias plys will fit some XS models (Specials), here is what it says about them:
Elite 3 Bias Tire
New range of bias and belted-bias high-mileage premium touring tires to replace the 491 Elite II in like sizes with black sidewalls.
The bias-ply Elite 3 features a new profile modeled after the shape of modern radial-construction tires and shares many of the same benefits.
The load capacity of the E3 rear tire for the Honda GL1500 is increased to 992 pounds for greater carrying capacity.
Here are sizes:
