I watch america's funniest videos on Sunday night with my daughters (8 and 10 yr old). They love the show, I use it to remind myself how many people do not understand the consequences of their actions. I assume that most of these people are living and driving on the same road I do, keeps me safe. Maybe the test question should be, have you ever done anything invovling motorized equipment, trampolines or power tools that should be sent in to AFV. No proof, but I am thinking some of these are the drivers that think they can run at 75mph, a cell phone jammed in their ear, and less than a car length between them and the car in front.
I have a bike and I am not afraid to use it

Ya know, I have a sign on the back window of my car that says "Got phone? Brakes? Insurance?" I love getting in front of some idiot on a cell phone and lighting up the brake lights. The look of horror on their faces just makes my day.

Gotta agree with chevy45412001 on this one...

Helmet's are a choice... I usually wear a helmet, but sometimes there's nothing better than cut-offs, a tank top and a pair of sunglasses going down the road...

Besides, I saw a friend of mine get killed while wearing his helmet. We were 18, cruising into town at about 45 mph (the speed limit). It was about 7:00 pm, dusk, not dark. I was about 300 ft ahead of him and some old blue hair pulled out between us to make a left hand turn... Nothin he could do, he laid it down and slid into the frame of the car, helmet first. The helmet exploded, literally. All they found was fiberglass powder and pieces of the face shield... God, it still gives me goose bumps thinking about it, and that was 22 yrs ago!

            idiot license

I can change a tire on the family Buick though much good it might do me when far from home to put that dorky little donut on there.
My wife can change a car tire too. She uses her cell-phone to call CAA.
Changing a modern bike tire on the roadside? WhoTF can do that?
Best I can do is hope the can of FixAflat actually works.
I read this article about a guy writing a program for a computer to drive a truck. First thing he did was to interview a whole bunch of truckers for background. Turns out the most accident free truckers are guys who are between 40 & 50 and stupid. Works like his:- under 40s are full of testosterone and too agressive; over 50s have slower reaction times. Smart guys only need 20% of their brains to drive so driving is boring and the other 80% thinks of other things. Which is fine until those interesting thoughts start taking up more & more of the 20% until they drive into a bridge abutment. The stupid guy needs all of his brain to drive so driving is fulfilling and there's no brain left over to be distracted.
As to questions in the written test to determine "common sense"
you are actually asking a civil servant to define that quality? Heaven help us all.
