  • New Member Saying Hi

    Hello everyone,

just wanting to say thank you to TCG and gary for helping me get on this site took them a bit for some reason so thank you verry much.

now to all you other xsive fans WOW a bike that was started being built not too long after i was born and there are ppl still out here trying to rebuild them con grats on perseverence.

now for a little about me:

Born in june of 74 in Germany (Father was ARMY)

Recieved my first cycle on December 17 2004
of course it was an xs1100

well heres my story on my xs
my father in law bought it at the end of his first mariage literealy
he bought it one day and signed the paper work the next so he parked it at his sisters house at that time it was running but not great since then it has been sitting under a tarp in his sisters back yard that was three years ago i went to see it for the first time on christmas eve it has the windjammer fairing and vetter trunk but no side bags (oh well ebay) tried the kick starter and the engine isnt siezed so imoff to a good start my next mission is to head back to florida got to report to work on tuesday then as soon as my taxes get back its a hitch on the mini van (wife two kids 3 and 11 months) and back to mississippi to get the beast and start working on her.
i have pics of her with out the tank and seat father in law says tank was rustin on the bottom so he removed them. they are in the shed at his house but with christmas and everything we havent dug them out yet. will do that before we leave though maybe i can get the tank up to par before my taxes come in.

well ill post pics as soon as i get them on a computer
and i will keep e1 informed as to how the project is coming believe me i know i will because i will be begging for a lot of help im not verry mechanicaly inclined but a rebuilt xs1100 beats a new honda rebel any day of the week especialy since im six two and 260 pounds lol

    merry christmas everyone

    Well, hey there "Shorty" M.O.D.f,

I see the 'f' is for your XS11 model designation, and how fitting the initials to your handle spell "MOD", as in modification, something you will probably be doing a lot of in the months to come! Glad you were finally able to get signed up and posting!!!
I'm 6'6" tall, but only a 220lb, so I know a bit about where you're coming from fitting on the XS11!

If he still has the tank, definitely keep it, you'll need the parts, the petcocks, gas cap and keys, fuel sensor, and even the badges if they are in good shape, many tanks you find on Ebay are stripped, and you'll need these parts. Also, finding a standard tank may be a bit of a challenge, and the petcocks will only fit a standard, and you'll want to get a Standard tank for the increased capacity over a Special!

I've heard that once fuel has been in a tank, that you can't effectively weld it to seal it, something to do with the pores of the metal and such, not to mention the sealant coating on the inside, etc! And if it's rusted out from the inside vs. the outside, then it's probably a goner anyways!? From the outside, depending on how big the holes are, you may be able to fiberglass patch it?? I'm sure the other XSives here will chime in with suggestions!

Congrats on your acquisition, and looking forward to seeing your posts and providing assistance where we can!! YOU CAN DO IT!

            First ride?

            Hi MOD,
you say this is your first ever motorcycle?
Just be careful out there, IMHO the XS11 is 150 lbs too heavy and 50 mph too fast for a beginner, even a big & burly beginner.
I'd advise that you at least take a riders training course before you ever ride the machine.
Nobody on this list wants to hear about you becoming a smear of forensic evidence.
