Harbor Freight had an ATV/motorcycle lift on sale last month for $60.00. (Regular price is $70.00.) Don't know the quality, and you need to build a cradle of some sort to fit between the lift frame and the bike frame, but should not be hard to do. Any lift will require some type of cradle, btw. As much as I like tinkering, I don't think that I could build a lift for that.

They have a more professinal version for $150.00. This one lifts a couple inches higher than the cheaper unit, weighs more, and looks like it would be more stable.

Just a couple options for people who are not in a position to build a lift.Jerry Fields

Bike Lift
I bought a "motorcycle/atv" lift from Kragen Auto (on sale for $49). It looks just like the AFAB lift, except it has wheels. The lift bars, however, impact the exhausts of my 80G, so I'll need to come up with some "clearance enhancers." I have had one suggestion: to use hockey pucks, and that might do it. I was thinking of splitting a piece of PVC and screwing the halves down on a piece of 2x12 spaced so that they catch the frame rails. Hockey pucks would be less work.

I also got one of the ATV lifts and have encountered similar problems (except on my XL250).
I was thinking of using the ATV jack as the basis of a table lift. Mine has a 1500 lb capacity.
In the mean time it makes a nice transmission jack on my Ford.Pat Kelly

I was given a lift for Christmas a couple of years ago. It came from Sears, I beleive. The exhaust on my XSs keeps me from using it on them. It works great for my dirt bikes and the stripped XS frame I use for prototyping custom stuff.
The best part about it, is I can wheel a bike around the shop to get it out of the way of other projects.
I intend on building some kind of adapter to clear the pipes on the XSs, but having gotten around to it.DZ

bIKE LIFT
What year is your XS frame? Is there a difference between Standards and Specials? Is there enough clearance between the exhaust and the frame for the wall thickness of a piece of PVC to slip between them to cradle the frame? (That's the one thing I haven't measured.) What do you think of the hockey puck idea?
