  • Need A Boot

I just bought xs1100 but I'm not really sure what model it is.. the previous owner
removed all the logos.. All I know is the date of the bike 10/79. My question is how do i find out what model it is and where can I get a new boot for the bike. The current one has a big cut in it..:confused

    What Model

Write down the bikes serial number. Go to the left side of this page. Click on "Specifications". Scroll down to serial numbers. You should be able to determine what model you have from there.
Also, what "boot" are you talking about? Where is the boot you are unsure of located on the bike?

        Drive Shaft Boot

Go to your local Yamaha dealer and have them do an availability trace on; 2H22189 Boot Rubber.
If no luck there, come back onto the board and plead nicely. Someone may have one that they are willing to part with.
Where are you, Canada is a big place? There may be another XS'er in your neighborhood. Who may be a nice guy and have a boot on a parts bike. Stranger things have happened.

I have priced a u joint boot at Bike bandit for $33, as compared to $54 that a dealer wanted. The production date of 10/79 means it is an 80 model.

Just wanted to let you know that not all dealers are rip offs for part prices. I needed a few small parts like o-rings, air filter, oil plug and oil filter bolt. He was able to adjust the prices a bit. For example, every where I looked, the oil filter bolt was $19 or higher. Dealer priced it and then lowered it to $16. I did not ask him to match any price nor did I tell him about costs of other vendors.

I never knew they had so much play in the price. I think the retail on that bolt is about $23.

The place I went to was Riva Yamaha in Pompano Beach Florida.

                  Hey Michael,

If your boot just has a tear, you can repair it, it's just a DUST seal, it doesn't hold any oil, or at least it's not supposed to!? If yours has oil in it, then your final drive seal is bad and you'll need to replace it as well!

Thumper, Yikes, $23.00 for filter bolt, JCW has them for $8.98!?

I guess I should have looked around some more. JCW seems a lot less than any one which was near $23 for partsandmore and Bike Bandit. I paid about 2x what JCW had it for.

I should have asked you first TC.

                        TC, more like MIDDLE drive.
I checked once and it was full of oil. Had to replace the middle drive oil seal. Works fine now.

                            Badges

                            Hi Michael,
seems BKR has a dust boot for you.
Where you at? I'm in Saskatoon.
The be fair to your PO, the XS11 badges are made of frail nasty plastic, priced like gold and are hard to find.
Your local Yamaha dealer should stock aftermarket stick-on 3 tuning fork badges at $4.75 each. Bondo, repaint & slap 'em on.
As your bike is dated 10/79 it's an '80. Big tank, rectangular headlight, front wheel axle at bottom of fork, 17" rear wheel it's a Standard (XS11G); small tank, round headlight, front wheel axle in front of fork, 16" rear wheel it's a Special (XS11SG).
