  • First flat on my XS

I thought with all of the people sharing there stories that TC keeps putting out, and the fact I got my first XS flat today, why not share.

I was doing 80 on the turnpike and coming up to the exit I was planning on departing the highway. I was coming up to the toll both, the rear end felt a little strange. Got up to a red light and looked down and uh-oh, rear tire was almost flat to the ground. Fortunately I came up on a self-serve gas station and they had tire plug kits for sale. I was able to plug and fill back up on air. I remember some other people like Daniel mentioning that everyone should have one of these in their toolkit. Now I do to.

And since the tire was near bald, I called up the bike shop and ordered a new Dunlop tire to put on. I think it was a 405 if I remember correctly.

Well that is my story and I am sticking to it.
Owned by a pair of XS11's. An 80 Standard and a 79 Special.

Glad you were able to take care of it.

For long term use, I do not recommend the strip plugs...they can pull out of a MC tire...if you have to use those, get it home and pull the tire and patch it from the inside with a "stinger" patch.

For long term "on the road" use, a mushroom plugger will do. This is a gun that inserts a plug with an expanding head that holds it in from the inside. They work great!

I will run them indefinitely in the back...front tires I dismount as soon as practical and patch from the inside...

    Ride safe!
