Well, your Laser discs can be imported into your computer as MPG2 files "if" you have a capture card, most of those discs weren't copy protected(Macrovision), and then you can create your DVD's from it. Just that using the large format required for DVD files 720x480, you may get slightly decreased quality of the video due to the level of compression you may need to be able to fit the "Time" of the videos, ~1-1/2 to 2 hours onto the single layer home DVD-rom discs which usually only hold about 1 hour's worth at max resolution ~ 6Mbits/sec data rate!?
Well, your R2R player can probably be retuned by getting new belts from the aforementioned web site, since you had it refurbished in 85, they are probably at their life's end, like my 83 model Teac I had!! Then you probably won't have to speak so gently to it!
