  • mass run on the 18th

Our local middle-aged Harley- rider club (the Ghost Mountain Riders of Lompico,) host a "End of Summer" run every year that I have attended for the past several years. It is 90% Harley, but all riders are welcome. There was even a Vespa scooter rider from the Santa Cruz radical "Goth" club (The Vampires) who passed me on Hwy 9 at 60mph last year.
It starts at a Mexican restaurant/ bar near the intersection of Hwy 9 and Graham Hill Road in Felton CA. Cost $20 to ride. The mass ride usually runs "over the hill" (twisty, 45 mph max) to Hwy 1 near Davenport, then north on Hwy 1 ( 60- 70mph) for 30 miles or so (sorry, don't have my map out, can't remember the name of the town,) then inland to a biker friendly bar for hotdawgs and whatever. Riders are then on their own to the final stop. This final leg usually goes by the famous Alices Restaurant at the intersection of Hwy 35 (AKA Skyline Drive) and Woodside Road. On any weekend one can find a Vincent, a Gussy Falcon, a Boss Hog or two, Ducs, and exotica ad infinitum. From there to Hwy 9 at the summit, then down hill thru the Redwoods to Boulder Creek and a turn down Hwy 236 (AKA Big Basin Way) about 2-3 miles to Camp Krem..
Camp Krem is a summer camp for mentally handicapped kids. The Ghosties contribute the profits from the run to the camp in exchange for the right to party there for a couple of days. A BBQ dinner goes with the fee, and of course there is the usual hard-core adult biker entertainment.
I would really dig having one or two XSive riders show up to ride with. We can form an XS contingent! We can get our heads together on a West Coast Rally and swap lies about our rides!
Cost $20 per rider and ride starts around 10:00 A.M. from Don Quioties (or however the heck you spell it,) in Felton. Don't worry, just come to Felton and look for the bikes: you really can't miss it.
If you've never ridden with 700+ bikes and had the CHP stop traffic for you, you have missed out on a major thrill.
    Hope to see someone there!

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
    I've been riding since 1959.

You mentioned riding in a pack of hundreds of bikes, and had CHP stopping traffic for you. Back in '80 A shipmate of mine and I rode from San Diego to LA for a christmas toy run. We left SD with 500 bikes, and we had a police escort all the way. I don't remember what town we spent the night in (imagine that!), but the residents of this particular neighborhood let us all camp on their lawns for the night. That was way cool of them. There were bikes lined up and down three streets. Only two bikers were arrested that night. and we left the place cleaner than we found it. Got to griffith park in LA and there were an estimated 10,000 bikes there! AND the official Santa of the toy run rode a, get this, HONDA 750 Chopper! Not an h-d. I have never seen so many bikes before or after that. That was one experience I'll never forget.
