  • Hurricane Frances

I don't see a thread on this so I thought I would start one.

I happen to live about 10 miles east of Pompano Beach. About 20 minutes north of Fort Lauderdale and just south or West Palm Beach.

We are battening down the hatches. Most of my shutters are up on the window and will be done today. Gas stations have huge lines. Gas stations have run out of fuel but are trying to get loaded up as they can. Long lines as welll for propane fillups allready as well.

I guess this is the price you have to pay for having a year round riding season.

Good luck to anyone in its path.

I have been watching this storm for a while. The way it is looking it will inpact the mountains around Asheville NC being maybe a cat. 1 storm still. There will be a great danger from flooding where I live.Better get out if you can, this looks to be a very bad storm all around so be careful and don`t take any chances.Be careful out there.

Those hurricanes are too big. All we got to worry about here is an occasional tornado.

Take care down there- my prayers are with you.

Why not come to Nashville for the weekend?

It looks like a crappy weekend in the Sunshine state. Why not come up to Nashville for the weekend. It's going to be nice here and we go on a long ride every Sunday. Since you will be here, you might as well stick around for the VJMC rally that starts Tuesday and goes through next Saturday.

I hope all goes well for you guys down there. Stay safe!

Been all over Fla., Bahamas, two weeks in Daytona and the Keys just last December. Hard to believe the way you guys get slammed during hurricane season. Hope you get through in one piece! Next time I'm there I'm gonna rent a bike.

I'm in the middle of the storm right now. Eye passing over Tampa just 30 miles north of here. Winds gusting to 70 mph, not good riding weather!
Fun thing to do in a hurricane: place your car back into the wind and in neutral, see how fast you can go! I've been reaching 25 mph with an Explorer here at work, on the runways and taxiways of the airport.
We'll be OK here, north and east is another story, quite a bit of damage.... Send your donations to the Red Cross and Salvation Army.

                    Frances

Well, here it is the Tuesday after Frances and I still don't have any electricity or phone service not even cell service. I still have a tree on my house (not in it - yet) and a massive tree down in my yard o top of several other trees.
I had to come to work to to read my e-mail.
I guess that no injuries is the most important thing.

I've been worried about you. I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, but glad to hear that you are OK. I just saw on the morning news that one of our local electric companies is sending ten boom trucks, with operators, to help you get your power back. Good luck and let us know if we can do anything for you.

Well, I finally got my electric back on last night. Of course this is the time my A/C decides to take a break. Had to call out a repair person this morning. $200 later, now I have A/C.

Now if I can only get by cable and phone turned back on. I think I paid the bills for those. lol.

At least the gas stations are being refilled now that tanker trucks are starting to move around today.

I pray that this was not a prep for a visit from Crazy Ivan.

                          Lack of power

I just found out that it will be until at least late Thursday before I MIGHT have power restored.
It's aggravating when the people across the street (different electric company) have power.
I'm going to move my family into a hotel this afternoon for the duration.

Hobbit, I really feel for you. Losing it for 48 hours is bad enough. I am currently looking around for a genrator. I saw some in the pep boys ad that I would buy, If I could find one. None of the stores around here have any generators.

You guys remember, when you hook up to an off grid power source, ( generator ) make sure that whatever you are hooking it to is not hooked to the power grid. You'll burn up your generator trying to power up the whole state.
If you all wanted to take a vacation. Now is a good time. My door is open for ya here in S.D. just give me a heads up. Don't forget to bring your XS cauz it's perfect riding weather up here. Sunny, not to hot, not to humid, no wind right now,
