i called the place its in Country side a little south of Chicago, a good hour to a hour and a half drive. For kicks i called the Yamaha dealer a mile from my house. He said that he could order it for me and have it by Monday. $4.95, but I dont have to pay for shipping. Thanks for the part #Adrian

Navigating the catalog
Hi Chevy,
thanks for posting the link. After I retyped it to remove the gap and lop off the extras the highlander site opened up just fine.
All manner of goodies but the site don't even mention the XS11 except to show a few electrical items that they don't stock and there ain't no "search" button to type the dipstick's part number in neither.
Post those last few steps, please?

getting parts
Here goes. get on the site,www.highlandsyamaha.com . Next look on the left side of window, will see a list of things. Click on oem parts, that brings up three things,1 what your looking for (motorcycle) 2 year i put in 1979 ,(didn't have xj so i went with a different year, they are the same dipstick for all) 3 modle went with the xs1100 ,as stated above. Then went through the usual thing . credit card bla, bla, bla, As poorboy stated you could prbly go to dealer and save a little more too.1982 XJ 1100

misunderstanding
Hi Chevy,
Lil' plastic thingie for the transmission I got.
As my XS11SG has a sidecar attached there's no way I can get my head down there to squint in the little oil window so I have to check the engine oil level with a mirror on a stick.
Hey it's a nice telescoping chrome plated mirror on a stick but I'd still prefer a dipstick on the engine oil filler plug and I had thought that was what Highlands was selling.
