I don't remember the make/model of the first computers I used, but...

Atari and Intellevision were very early ones, stuff like Asteroids, pong, etc.

Also used Apple II's to play artillery and stuff like Lode Runner, Conan, Montezuma's Revenge, ect.

My first computer I could tinker with was a 286 with I don't know how much Ram - floppy discs - played some text games.

I remember getting started with computers on DOS 3.2. Eventually got into 386s and thought they were fast. Then 486/25mhz and thought it was fast. Eventually bought a 486 DX4 100MHz smoker with 8mb of RAM ($2,000 dollars!) - had the best/fastest computer in town. My friends would come over to run DoomCAD on it to make their own levels. Must have had some funky RAM, because I had a bunch of weird glitches with that machine... Spent HOURS playing DOOM and dozens of flight simulators (had the ThrustMaster FCS with rudders, throttle, and control stick) and even more hours writing levels for DOOM II....

Learned to program with it, ran a 2-line JetBBS and PCBoard BBS over a 14.4 and 2400 modem for years.

Internet came along and wiped me out. Then I got into web.

Ahh... the good old days... For me, those days were the days of the FAT Computer Shopper magazines and "The Lab of Doom and Pepsi Cola".

Will never buy a new machine again. Am using a Celeron 800 right now and will build budget machines always.

Well, I hate to sound real old! but the first Game I was hooked on was.... I think it was called paddles or paddle ball? It hooked up to our black and white TV and it was kind of like handball only you used these knobs that moved your paddle left or right. My first computer was a commador 64. I then upgraded to a 8086 turbo XT!!! 4 meg ram and a 40 meg RLL hard drive ( after a 600 dollar upgrade for memory and harddrive). DOS 2.1. , 5 1/4 floppys ( and I do mean floppy). Mono chrome monitor. Man I was cookin! I am now an IT Director and it amazes me the incredible growth and evolution the electronic industry has experienced. It is mind boggling.

My first post on this forum and it's about videogames. How lame is that???

The first video game I was hooked on was the standup arcade Asteroids. I probably blew enough quarters on that to buy a bike.

My first computer was an Atari 800XL - Christmas 1984. They were on sale for $119.95. The game I got hooked on for that was "Magic Johnson vs. Larry Bird". If you moved the joystick in a certain fashion, you do a spin move and then slam the ball. If it was executed just right, the backboard would shatter! I would play with friends and we'd holler and scream at each other and trash talk just like we were on the court.

The first console game I was hooked on was "Mario Bros." for the original Nintendo Game. It took me probably 8 or 9 months to beat. I used to play it with my son sitting in my lap. I thought he thought it was a videotape, but after a while he wanted to play, and I gave him the joystick. He could actually play. He was about two at the time so it was pretty amazing to watch. Anyway, after I had finally beaten the game, we'd go back and play our favorite levels again. That was a great time. When he was three or four we'd go to the Mall and he'd want a quarter for a videogame. He literally had to reach over his head to reach the controls and he'd have to look up to see the screen but he could play. Once people would realize he was playing the game and jost just wiggling the controls to the demo, he'd draw a crowd of onlookers.

I had Ataris, then Macs, and finally PC's - the only PC game I've really been hooked on was Duke Nukem. I used to play after hours at work with a bunch of guys. I think you could have 8 players at once; we usually had five or six and it was a BLAST! Trash talk there reached epic proportions!

BTW - my son is still a BadA** videogame player even though he's not really interested in them any more. A while back a friend hosted a LAN party. I brought my son as an extra player. He hardly ever games anymore, so I really didn't think it would be a problem. We ended up putting him on the slowest computer in the house and he still crushed us all on a game that I don't think he'd played before. It finally got to where no one cared about winning, the goal was to try and take out Matthew.

              Just resurrecting an old thread,

Wanted to let you all know, that if you don't see me as much on here as usual, it's because I "FINALLY" got my copy of DOOM3 for the Xbox, came out yesterday, and I'll be busy busting caps in alien creepies and marine zombies for quite some time!!

It was tough holding on to those $75.00 worth of Xmas gift certificates until now!! Along with Doom3, I also had previously rented a couple of games, and like them, so I picked up used copies of Psi-Ops, and a fairly new WWII FPS "Call of Duty".

I already finished Doom3 on the PC, my friend bought it and didn't like it since it was so dark...so I got it free. It's pretty cool, but I guess Halflife 2 makes it look weak. He bought that one too and quit playing it. I just got a copy of MOH Pacific Assault...I am also just starting an old game (GTA Vice City) I bought it well over a year ago and just popped it out of the wrapper.

Umm.......I just noticed it was spring....games will have to wait until fall, crap maybe next year!!
