Oh yeah, I forgot about Decent 1 and 2 (and 3) I pretty much lived that for a while, I have an original Wingman Extreme (analog) that I used to fly that ship. I can still grab it and all the contols are second nature. I broke it (wore it out) 3 times and had a parts one used to keep it going.

Forsaken was a similar game but with better graphics...I loved that one too.

You dont even want to know how I played Descent1/2 and Terminal Velocity...

I worked at a "Gaming Room" that a local ISP started up and I spent hours playing those games with Virtual Reality helmets, along with two piece joystick and throttle controls on top of the line PCs (at the time).

Duke Nukem was fun multiplayer, but kept desyncing.

Sounds like most of us have lived two lives. One in the real world and the other in a world where we didn't get caught doing things we wished we could have done to the guy that cut us off in traffic.

Halo on surround sound with 3 machines hooked up together and 16 of us playing at the same time was how we spent new years. Was so loud so long and so very cool.

I started out on a Mac, I think it was a 512, which later was enhanced to a 512E. Not too sure of these names anymore, it was a few years ago. Mono screens, tiny, with no hard drive at all. Can you believe the OS and the program and data all ran off a floppy?? I remember adding a meg of memory that seemed like a huge amount, and is now probably less than my cell phone has. Computer advances are so fast it is really hard to keep up. The box I am on now is a 933 Hz unit, and it is now dated, even though it's not that old. Does anyone remember PONG? That was my first "computer" game. It was a box you hooked up to your TV. May have been the first "playstation" type of machine. I wasted many an hour on that game.

Actually if you want interesting I rented a copy of Test Drive for the PS2, while the games loading it brings up pong for you to play. I got a kick out of it when I saw that.

I bought a copy of Doom3 today. Installed it on my pc and the damn thing crashes as soon as it starts. Tech support says get new drivers which is basically a cop out for "our program sucks"
I installed new sound and vid drivers and it just got worse.

Hope the patch comes out soon. I'd really like to play it.

Pat K, don't they have a patch for half life like they do to help people quit smoking? Of course, it likely works as well as the nicotine patch!

Actually, in this case it's not a copout - Doom3 uses things that no other program before it has (maybe FarCry used some). Also make sure you have At least DirectX9.0b, though DirectX9.0c is out. The biggest thing aside from that is the latest video driver. If you have an ATI card, ATI just released a new set of catalyst drivers that run better in Doom3.

DX9.0b came with the program. Which I installed.

The interesting thing about the drivers is that the game got farther with the earlier set than it does with the current which for ATI is 4.7
Every time I try to run it, it freezes up, crashes to the desktop or every now and again it reboots the computer. I've tried it in every available resolution mode including changing from 8X to 4X mode in the BIOS.
I have an ATI AIW9800pro vid card.
I've never had a problem with any game like this before.

I went ahead and reinstalled the catalyst 4.7 drivers hopefully that'll make a difference.
Also you say dx9.0c is available. think I'll give that a try.
If not I hope there will be a patch soon.

                        Hey there Bud,

I just went to ATITECH page, and they have a NEW Beta 4.9 version of their catalyst that is available that is suggested as a HOTFIX for the DOOM 3 game, here's the link to the page, then you can find the link for the Catalyst 4.9beta!! HTH.

Link to ATI's page for Catalyst 4.9 beta

                        T.C.

I have a much earlier version of the AIW 128 Rage Pro, and it won't support any version of Dx over 8.1a, I loose all of my video capture and TV tuner features if the higher version is installed! DAMHIKIJD ! ! ! !

This is why I will probably wait for the slightly reduced version for the XBox that I have before I play it, should be out in October!?

Thanks top I'll look into that for sure. I actually got the problem resolved by updating my VIA 4in1 drivers.

I'm a little hesitant about getting Beta drivers though. In fact, I'll probabley have to go to the earlier version of ATI driver because my video capture software has issues with 4.7 drivers.
Maybe 4.9 will fix that too.
                          Thanks again.

The ati 4.9 drivers didn't recognise my card. So I reinstalled the 4.7's
Time for me to do some killin!

                              Installed doom3 yesterday.... well....
I was kinda expecting something wow, at least a cool intro.
OK, intro bored me silly, so I skipped it a few minutes in.
Then I started playing and was totally disapointed, I mean c'mon... all the rooms look the same, you can't go thru the door before you don't kill a monster that comes from behind and you're in a room for 5 minutes, then you get sent to whatever command and you're supposed to find your way there.... BOOOOO... there is no other way than waiting for 5 minutes for the stupid monster to show up, so I can blow its red stuff out all over the walls, and even that dissapears after 5 secs or so.
OK, so after 20 minutes down the drain, I got on the net and got some really imaginative cheat codes... at least there could be cool weapons and stuff.....
                              Guess again...
Gonna try and find some screenshots, whether the game gets any better later on....
But I won't hold my breath....

Can't wait for the GTA San Andreas.

                                Hey Strom,

I read a review yesterday on the net about Doom3, and they kinda panned it also, that the visual effects and physics were quite good, but that the gameplay was not anything new. That the scenario didn't quite make sense=plausible, and that they didn't even have a music soundtrack during gameplay, which I have to agree with the reviewer, DOES add to the mood and such, at least it did with the OEM Doom and DoomII.

I even created my own music wads using a bunch of LED ZEP midi's, and they worked quite well also, lots of minor tones!!!

I'll be waiting for the Xbox version(to rent 1st), seems like both you and Bud are a bit more on the cutting edge of this computer tech stuff, since my 'puter that I built 2+years ago, is already outdated when it comes to the latest games!! Doom3 doesn't support anything but WinXP with Dx9.0, I'm still running 98SE, and can only run Dx8.0b due to graphics capture card software!
                                Hope you kept your receipt?
