    Prospective West Coast Rally

    Xsers-
I live in a unique region of "the Greatist Nation on God's green Earth." I live on the boarder of a beautiful park that would make a great meeting place for a West Coast XS Rally.
Why unique? This is "where the palms meet the pines;" the southern edge of the Redwoods, the "big trees," that can be found nowhere else on God's green Earth. It is just an hours ride from Monterey (think Laguna Seca, and World Championship Superbike Races) less than that to the Monterey Bay: magnificent scenery, sea lions, whales, and sea otters. Riders fly in from all over the world to rent bikes to ride down the road (Hwy 9) that I ride every day as a matter of course. I am one lucky Dude!
I'm not telling you this to brag, or make you feel bad: I'm telling you this to put out a feeler to see if there would be enough interest in a West Coast Rally held in Ben Lomond for me to organize one.
Would you be interested in attending? If so when?
The Hollaster Rally (if I get the time I'll finish my ride report of same,) is held on Independence Day weekend. Imagine invadeing Hollester with a couple of hundred XS's! It's only an hour from here!
Or how about Superbike Weekend at Laguna Seca? The city of Monterey closes off historic "Cannery Row" to bikes only on Saturday nite of the races. I saw a whole block of "Ducks" all lined up in a row. Picture a whole block of XS's instead!
    Talk t' me!

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
    I've been riding since 1959.

West Coasters should line up for this great idea! A few weeks ago I travelled the Calif coast by car from Santa Monica through Big Sur. Gorgeous! It was the first time in many years and I kept thinking what a great ride it would be.

I live in Maine, so I won't be able to join you. If I lived out west, I'd be there for sure (for Sur?).

Once in a while I admin to being a native Californian...was born in Mt. Shasta. Have relatives in Oxnard. I would be interested in attending a west coast rally. There have been a couple British Columbia rallies that went over well, but I did not have a chance to get to them.

        West Coast Rally

You can put me down as a definite maybe. That is a long way in the future. Ratbyk and I still have to survive this summer before we get to 05.
I doubt if you will get a "whole block" of XS"s, more like 25 to 30.
I have not been down to Laguna Seca for a M/C race since the 1989 US GP race. It was pretty down there, also hot and crowded. As I remember even then it was very hard to get motel rooms closer than 50 miles away from the track. More people go now then were at that race. Especially with an AMA national as well as the world super bike show.
I would like the ride down the length of 101. It is a neat ride if the multitudes of motor homes etc. are not out in force. Maybe the high cost of fuel now days will leave a lot of motor homes and campers parked.
Yep, sign me up as a definite maybe.

I would attend, so put me down also as a defenite mabee. I can also use this as an excuse to see my dad in San Jose and my mom in Ione ( 35 miles outside of Sacramento ) I don't think that I would be able to make it this year. and as I said, A definite mabee for next year. It's a long ride and I'd want to replace my clutch first. As far as I'm concerned, the only way out is to ride.

I would be definitely interested. As long as a definite date is set early to get vacation time. I rode down to the redwoods last summer with a group. We rode down 101 the back up 96 along the Kalamath River. Absolutely beautiful area.

If I still lived there I'd be all over a Central Coast PCH ride. It was a privelege to cruise those roads for 10 years or so- thats what motorcycling is all about. These days I'm just outside Rocky Mountain National Park- not a bad trade-off,really. Just got back from 'storm testing' my latest XS for the first time- performed flawlessly in the downpour.Thinking about a trip to Moab UT for the real road test. Have to wait 'till it stops raining [not that any of us Colordoans are complaining]- my guitar case isn't waterproof.

Sounds great!! I am only 1/2 hour from you, (Cupertino) and would like to meet some of the local XS crowd.

Keep us posted as to any progress.
