xs650 gas tank

I have an 1980 xs650. I am looking to change the gas tank to something that is a bit wider. Anyone have an idea of what other gas tanks might fit this bike?

Check with Mikes XS in Florida. He has to be one of the most knowledgeable around when it comes to 650's.

Hows your old tank if you get it figured out my son dented the tank on my 650 a few weeks ago it's not too bad but I am looking for another one. If you get it figured out and make the swap I could povide a place to store the old one for ya.

RNEAL5555, I bought a lerge lot of misc XS1100 parts a while back. Included was what looked like a Special tank. After a closer look though, It is obvious that it is smaller than that of an XS1100 Special, but with the sams lines.
It looks similar to the XJ 650 tank.

If you want to take some measurements, I would be happy to see if this will fit your bike.
It is black, with good petcock, badges and locking cap.(with key)

Sounds like a plan Might be a little while till I get to it, to many projects to little time. Trying to get the boat running this weekend before the summers all gone. I will get back to ya with some dimensions and pics of the bottom.

Drive right by ya up and down 395 once or twice a week. Working in NH till next april. The big ones up there right now was riding the little one down here till my kid put it in the bushes. He and one of his friends who works at Excalber Powersports are supposed to be putting here back together but I'm getting a little impatient maybe after the boat??? Anyway we should get together for a ride sometime.
