  • Waving (here we go again)

(Adapted From the net writer Unknown)

I love motorcycles, and I love riding. Like many of you what first drew me to bikes was not just the experience of riding, but the feeling that I'd become part of a special community - a brotherhood, really. Nothing calms me more than a long ride down the interstate, waving to the members of my beloved clan. Except when I pass Harley guys. I hate Harley guys. Hate, hate, hate. When they pass me on the highway, you know what I do? I don't wave. With their little tassel handlebars and the studded luggage and the half helmets - God, they drive me crazy.

You know who else I hate? BMW guys. Oh, do I hate those guys. I don't wave at them either. They think they're so great, sitting all upright, with their 180 degree German engines. God, I hate them. They're almost as bad as those old bastards on their touring motorcycles. You know what I call those bikes? "Two wheeled couches!" Get it? Because they're so big. They drive around like they have got all day. Appreciate the scenery somewhere else, Grandpa, and while your at it, I'm not waving to you.

Ducati guys - I don't wave at them either. Why they don't spend a little more money on their bikes? "You can have it in any color as long as it is red." Aren't you cool! Like they even know what a Desmo-whatever engine is, anyway. Try finding the battery, you Italian-wannabe racers! I never, ever wave at those guys.

Suzuki guys aren't much better, which is why I never wave at them, either. They always have those stupid helmets sitting on the top of their stupid heads, and God forbid they should ever wear any safety gear. They make me so mad. Sometimes they'll speed by and look over
at me and you know what I do? I don't wave I just keep going. Please, don't get me started on Kawasaki guys. Ninjas? What are you, twelve years old? Team Green my ass. I never wave at Kawasaki guys.

I ride a Yamaha, and I'll only wave at Yamaha guys, but even then, I'll never wave at a guy in full leathers. Never, never, never. Yeah like you're going to get your knee down on the Los Angeles Freeway. Nice crotch, by the way. Guys in full leathers will never get a wave from
me, and by the way, neither will the guys in two piece leathers. And I'll tell you who else I'm not waving at - those guys with the helmets with loud paint jobs. Four pounds of paint on a two pound helmet - like I'm going to wave back at that! I'll also never wave at someone with a mirrored visor. Or helmet stickers. Or racing gloves. Or hiking boots.

To me, motorcycling is like a family, a close knit brotherhood of people who ride Yamahas, wear jeans and a leather jacket (not Vanson) with regular gloves and a solid color helmet with a clear visor, no stickers, no racing gloves and regular boots (not Timberlands). And isn't that what really makes riding so special.
    Cheers,
    Lazer

          Don't Wave Then

Big block, Lazer did not write that no wave article. He picked it up off the net. He was just sharing what he (and I) think is a funny piece. The guy who did write likely wrote it as joke as well.

That's funny. And even funnier to me, pretty much describes my gear when I'm on the Yamaha. Plain black leather jacket, black flip face HJC and jeans. I wear black ankle high Rebock clasics though so I don't know where they fit in. Someone told me I look like the Knight Rider??
Guess I ain't get'n any waves on the Heritage though since I do admit to haveing the studded luggage and bitch whips on the levers.

                    Heat!

                    chev454,
Wow, it's even hot here out on the coast in the NW. I'm planning on going to the XS meet in Bozeman Mont. next week. It's 84 here right now, bet it is 100 plus there even at 4000 plus feet. I'm going to start out but if my brain starts to fry I have made a deal with myself. (in my head) First A/C Motel will get my business and then about 4.30 the next morning I'll be heading back to my nice pacific breezes.
I don't function very well at those extreme temps. Got soft so far as extreme heat and cold goes after 16 years of living on fantasy island.
My only savior my be a Joe Rocket Phoenix 3 web/mesh jacket that I just bought. It lets the air flow right through. Tried it a couple of nights ago going out West Coast Rd. There was a cool breeze of about 65-70 coming in off the Pacific. I felt "cold!".
                    Hope it does it's job.
                    Take care and stay cool.

The 'Waving' limerick was a real blast from the past. I read that one on the back page of an independent 'cycling rag circa '95 or so in the Bay Area. The original had a real Dave Barry flair and I can see how lazer's paraphrazed version might have been taken a little too seriously by some. Still, I 'm reminded of that satire every time I cruise past a cattle call of new Harley riders on their first group ride. You can always tell when they're newbies- 50 mph on 65 mph stretch, no hemet, SWMBO on back nervously grinning [and wondering if this tassled, studded Road King was really worth trading in Junior's college fund], and best of all, merrily waving at them in my wake riding my kicka$$ $900 rice burner.
To quote one of my best freinds[and a lifelong Harley dude], it doesn't matter what you ride- just that you ride.

I have to agree. This quote is repeated to me by just about every Hogly rider I run across. But then most of them look down on my bike because it's a Yamaha and not a Hogly. Some are even embarrassed to park next to me ( this happened during Sioux Falls Hot Hogly Nights ) I wave "sometimes" but I never wave most of the time. I know this will sound cold hearted. I was rose up around TRUE Harley riders. Ya know, The guy who puts his bike in the kitchen for winter and doesn't have anything to prove. He also spends alot of time fixing and fabricating parts for his ride cauz he can't afford to buy the parts from Hogly. He's a metal fabricateor or plastics worker or truck driver not a middle aged yuppy that thinks that a Hogly is a status symbol and the bike has to have all the chrome this is availeable. This Yuppy guy always wanted a bike when he was young, but was a book worm and dedicated to his " making money and higher education " now I've got nothing against that but Ya can't NEVER ride a bike when your young, then when you get to be my age , decide "well I think I'm gonna go get me a road kill and be cool."Then haul %ss down the road and hurt yourself as well as others. This is just not right. " if anyone can tell, this is kind of a sore spot with me "
These Yuppies I call them Fake people cauz there trying now to be cool. Put some greas on there jeans and watch em cry cauz they just ruined a pair of desiners. These guys ( and gales " ) I also call " fair weather riders " I don't agree with riding in the rain, snow, sleet, heat, etc.. BUT that's apart of riding in my book. So your pipes and paint get a little dirty. That's what soap and water are for. "NOW GET THIS" This is all because of a yuppy wave with a dedication to an overpriced machine that's a representation of today's sociaty. Trying to make yourself better then the other guy. I say " HORSE $hit" if you wave at me. Ya might not get a wave back. Don't get mad cauz I don't care. I'm not out to Impress anyone. AND if ya don't like my bike, I don't care. It's my bike.
Wow.. sorry for ramblen on. I kinda get long winded sometimes. I can't spell worth a dam either.

i'm 27 now, and the first time i ever rode a motorcycle was when i was 25. mostly because when i was younger i was not allowed to have one. then i came across this beauty and couldn't pass it up.

My term for them is "Posers". They pose as tough guys and want to be "perceived" tough guys such as Hell's Angels or Outlaws when in reality they are just middle class wannabes who think that by wearing a H-D teeshirt or pasting the winged sticker in their back cage window that the rest of us will fear them and leave them alone or not beat them up because they are "tough guys". "Posers" I say. ROFLMAO
