I don't know if anyone particularly keeps up with bike ads, but the market seems to have a dearth of VTX1800s. There are two shops with in two hours of each other selling new 2003s for about $7500. Not a bad discount for a $12,000 bike.

Decision's

Leave the $7500. in the bank. Keep riding your XS. In 5 years your XS will be worth $3000. plus as a collector. The VTX will be $700. You do the math. You will still have a very unique motorcycle. You and it will not be lost in the masses. A guys motorcycle is usually a pretty personal thing. Most of this new crop of cruiser riders immediately after purchasing start spending thousands trying to make their ride different than anyone Else's.
No matter how many after market add ons they buy it is still the same as everyone else.
Don't let your XS know what you are thinking. She liable to spit you off in disgust.

Yep, I do like the esoteric qualities that the XS has. Guy at work has a Road King, 84 R100/RT, and has his eye on a /2 BMW, yet he lusts after the XS. Being a classic, with modern qualities is neat, too.
