Howdy Y'all!
I joined this forum a couple of months ago, and noe finally getting around to posting, so here goes:
Hi, my name is Steve, and I am a Yamaholic.
I am the proud owner of an '82 XJ1100 Maxim.
(The short version of my story)
I lucked (or was blessed, however you look at it) into my XJ a few months ago when a man my wife works with mentioned he had a bike collecting dust in his garage and said if someone wanted it they can come get it.
Of course my wife (who BTW has an '82 Virago 920) said, we would come get it that night.
As soon as the workday was over, we were on his driveway with the pickup.
After discussing why he was giving it away (see below), in the truck it went and we left before he could change his mind.
Why he gave it away:
A little over a year before, after being away from riding for over thirty years, he wanted a bike, so a friend of his sold him the XJ. The last bike he had ridden was way back in the 70's and it was a Honda 400, which he drove across town to school. Now he straddled a XJ1100 for the first time, he lived four miles from where he picked up the bike and (he said) before he made it home, he scared the bejeebers out of himself eight times.
He pulled it into the garage and there it set till it became mine.
After cleaning out the carbs, oil change. new set of rubber, complete fuel flush, replacing the fuel lines, popping in a new battery, she again roared to life.
I have put well over four thousand miles on her since she became mine.
(Trust me that was the short version.)
