    waterproof bags??

I need something to put my sleeping bag in so that it will not get wet in the rain.

Last year i used garbage bags - this did not work worth a crap.

anyone have anything that works well?

    Two garbage bags

Seriously, though, I've been camping for almost 30 yrs. Always double up on the bags and you shouldn't have a problem. Just don't pack the knives and forks in with the sleeping bags!

If you want to go hi tech, check out some of the bags that paddlers use like these from Mountain Equipment Co-op

I remember seening some vacuume packed bags for travlers. You could either roll the air out or suck it out with a vacuume cleaner. Check your local department store for these. I think they were made by Coleman but I'm not sure.

You may try a military surplus store for the waterproff bags that they used to issue us. They're large enough to hold whatever you would want to carry on a bike. Strong. Durable. Lined with a rubber like substance called rubber, Have draw strings to tie it closed. Although If you don't tie it VERY tight. stuff will still get wet. That's why when I was in the military, I doubled em up with the openings at opposite ends. With the bags tied like this, It will literaly float, Just think, You could also go tubing.

hey guys - thanks for all the suggestions.

checked the local military surplus store - they had some but they were too small.

i think the main reason i was having problems with the garbage bags is that my sleeping bag is so big. so i was having to put a garbage bag on each end because they would each only make it 3/4 the way around.

anyway i found EXACTLY what i was looking for at walmart. They called them 'float bags'. i suppose for rafting?

it's made out of a thick vinyl/rubber type material so it should be pretty durable. definitely waterproof. i can fit my huge oversized sleeping bag & a pillow in there.
