A friend just picked up a 1979 Suzuki GS850 in very good condition. He's having some electrical issues. I looked for a forum but everything I found was years old. Does anyone know of an active forum for that bike?

Very nice forum. I’ve always liked those Suzuki’s, but for some reason I only buy old Yamahas. How does the gs1000 stack up against the xs?

Well yeah, that much I knew. I was thinking more of performance. Top speed? Power...drive shaft vs chain....ect. I’ve owned a lot of bikes but they have all had drive shafts except for my little dirt bike.79 XS11 Special (Lazarus)

I seem to remember it may have been the GS1100 that unseated the XS1100 as quarter mile king.Marty (in Mississippi)

Chain
Don't remember exactly but there is a difference.
Shaft takes 10% power to drive, chain takes 7% power, belt takes the least at 5%. As I understand, it's why Yamaha built the 1100 cc engine, to compensate for the power lost due to the shaft.76 XS650 C ROADSTER
