All the King's horses and all the King's men..... AINT GONNA PUT THIS ONE BACK TOGETHER AGAIN!

Got a call the other day from a guy I purchased an XS11 motor and a few parts from in the past. In the past, he had this CRAZY idea of putting an HD motor in an XS11 frame - DUH! I knew it was dumb, I knew he didn't have the skills even if there is a couple guys that might be able to, this guy certainly couldn't!

Well, as expected, he gave up on the project and asked if I wanted the remains. I acquired a good little bunch of parts including an ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL Standard tank....

But this poor ole' "G" girl is junk..... Just another failed boober attempt!

Even though I had to ride all the way to Hendersonville, TN (north of Nashville) this was worth the time and the gas money. Even the gas cap for a standard is like "UNOBTAINIUM" and I needed one for the Pensacola project. I don't have any Standard model XS11's so a few of the hard to find bits & pieces may find their way into the hands of my friends.

On the minus side, a couple weeks ago I traveled all the way over to Montgomery AL to look at a '78 SR500. This is one of the bikes I would like to rebuild as it was my first REAL street bike. It was a total POS and the guy wanted $900 (real value <$100). Claimed he had like 50 people calling to come look.... Told him he better start dialing the other 49! Craigslist photos can make sometimes make a lump of coal look like a diamond in the rough.

              Hi Kurt,
The plastic and chrome pieces are worth saving.
Is that Carmine Red original tank? Looks terrific.

                Phil,
I'm not really too informed on the various colors of these machines and none of mine are OEM coloring. I'm even less familiar with the Standards than I am with the Specials. It's a two-tone paint job with slighter darker side panels. I'm not sure I've seen this before. Whomever painted it, they are a heck of a lot better painter than I am (Yamaha or Aftermarket).

Right now I've got to decide what gets tossed in the trash and what is worth the space for keeping.... I finished what the PO started and cut the frame up and tossed in the trash..... with several other items.....

                Sincerely,
                Kurt Boehringer

                  Carmine Red

That is Carmine Red. One of the better colors for the 11s. I had a Standard that color. It was a beautiful example. Back in the day, you could order a tank from the dealer in any of the Yamaha colors. Kurt, that is a beautiful tank.

Wow look at all that great stuff that I spent the last few years hunting for!!!! That tank is new ruby red...from a 1980 standard, and I hate to say it but it’s about a $500 score. Have you seen the prices people are getting on eBay for pure junk? I thought I was lucky to find mine I think it was $225 and I still needed all the parts and to clean it out! You wouldn’t have some fork reflectors in that pile for me? Would you?

Did I say I spent years hunting for it!! And it’s not nearly as nice as yours! Carmine red was a 79 special red color.

                        XS11 Lover,
Good to see you back. Yes, I've seen the junk. The other day a guy had a rusty POS on evil bay with dents in BOTH sides, no cap, no fuel sender, no petcocks. Looked like it needed 40 hours of work (Minimum) and a liner for sure and the was offering it at the "Discounted Price" of $250. I've been watching just to see what it might be worth...….BUT, I'm a pack rat and will likely NEVER let it go. I would have been happy just to find the perfect cap which is also UNOBTAINIUM.

About the reflectors...… I do have a WHOLE lamp assy. from this All-The-Kings-Horses set.

I have a set of reflectors off of the XJ11 that I am parting out that I'll hold here on stand by if Kurt's doesn't work out for you for some reason.

And like Kurt, i have to admit that I have also stole some of your ideas, Your work is impressive!
