  • Found a small fairing that fits...sort'ov

Found a cafe fairing on Amazon that, after a little trimming and tweaking finally fits the '81 Standard. Doesn't add much for wind protection, and I can't use the windshield bubble because of the rotten square gauges being way too big. Koodos to the body shop supply store for matching the paint from an empty 3 year old rattle can.

If it's fiberglass, you can easily do some mods to it. Plastic is harder, but doable with a little practice. I like the looks, but by bringing the top up at a higher angle you should be able to have it "cover" the gauges. Think a line from the headlight to the top front of the gauge cluster, curving down the sides to cover the mount hole for the bubble. That will give you a little more color in front, but still not look too big.
Oh, I'm not really big on green, but the bike looks great! VERY nice job.

It's now into it's third paintjob. I swear, if I drop it, the hit will look like a broken gobstopper. The last colour was Ford Kodiak Brown, which looked awesome in the sunlight, (like a root-beer sucker), but looked like any other black bike in the dark or overcast day. The green has grown on me. I've had a few people in parking lots mistake it for a Norton...which is never a bad compliment on a $300 bike.

        fairing

I don't remember just how I did it, but I lowered my guages on my F. I think I turned the mounting bracket up side down. Anyhow, not very difficult to do.
