Are there any shops in the US that rebuild XS1100's?
I seem to remember seeing a comment from a few years back about one out on the west coast but I'd like to find something east of the Mississippi. I'm not really interested in spending 2k just in shipping fee's.

    rebuild

Howdy GMAC,,,,to get a shop that specializes in xs1100 rebuild is a stretch, BUT any old timer mechanic in a non dealer shop should be able to do a rebuild. THere should be a good reliable mechanic in your area, just depends on how much you want to spend and amount of rebuild work to be done. THe Yamaha Dealers wont work on anything over 10 years,,if its just carbs and cosmetics, its not that difficult. If its engine, tranny,,,,,experienced mechanic is the call. Keep us posted,,,,,Mike in Sun DIego

Nothing complicated about these bikes. No different than bikes of the early 2000's prior to FI.

        No, nothing difficult but ...

When you have nerve damage in your hands bad enough so that you have to watch them then its a bit more of a challenge. Yes, I can do it, but I've learned to take little steps so that if it gets away from me I can call friends and have them help.

Which is essentially what I'm doing now.

          Hey George-

What I meant to say is that most dealerships won't touch them, but MANY competent mechanics that are not swamped will gladly work on them. Simple air-cooled DOHC engines, that is basically UJM.

              Rebuilds

What exactly do you want done and how quickly. I could do another one if you can bring it North.

                  XS repair

I know this is quite far from you, but Cliff's Cycle Service, S2979 Schmidt Road, Marshfield, WI 54449, 715-384-4555. They were the oldest Yamaha dealer in the USA until about 4 years ago when the franchise was given to Power Pack of Mfld. About 10 years ago, they built a complete 79 special from spare parts for a customer. They do just about perfect work, and still have a lot of original parts.
