Hey there boys and girls,
Well, our wedding anniversary is fast approaching, as well as Xmas, and then my 60th Birthday in Feb. My first car was a sportscar that I had for like 10 years, but then lost it due to financial strife. Then had a variety of other basic cars. All along I had my XS11, but it had also died in the early 90's and wasn't able to resurrect it for 10 years, but have had it running these past 17 years. But now that I'm preparing for my "LATE" midlife crisis, and it was the end of the production year, I decided to look into getting a new car. The SWMBO several years ago had fallen in love with the new Camaro series. And also since Pontiac was now defunct, and I've never really liked FORD, earnestly looked into the Camaro.
The engine choices are the I4 Turbo. I had an old thunderbird with an I4 Turbo,it was okay, but with the 2 ton weight of the Camaro, I figured that the I4 would be into the turbo quite a bit. I know they are much better than they were decades ago, but still.
Then there is the V-8, but that seemed like way more HP than I really needed, and drinks gas quite a bit, poor mileage. And both the I4 and the V-8 are recommended to run on PREMIUM.
The V-6 3.6L seemed like the right choice, No turbo so not as complicated, still plenty of power, especially now with an 8 speed automatic transmission. It also has Direct Fuel Injection, and VVT(Variable Valve Timing), and the ability to drop 2 cylinders under low load situations, effectively becoming a 4 cyl with the other 2 available ON DEMAND.
Regrettably, the Synergy Green color was for the previous years, they have a newer green, but it's reserved mostly for the high powered machines. So I selected the Hyper Blue Metallic over the bright silver/dark silver/black/white/red colors.
It's the basic featured LT with "just" cruise control, power locks/windows/mirrors, Keyless start, entry, single zone AC, Radio/Mp3-USB/iTune-Android audio, OnStar, 4 wheel discs and 18" rims(Don't like the 20's, too little tire sidewall height-taller tires provide more rubber for a softer ride affect and less likely to damage rim with road hazard), Tilt-Telescope Steering wheel with mounted paddle shifters for manual shifting "fun" with the AutoTrans, Backup Camera, Cooler Cloth upholstery with electric adjustments, HID headlights/LED aux DRL's. MSRP was around $29K, got several $K manufacturer incentives, and a decent downpayment, my resultant payments are just a few bucks more than what I was paying on my little Sonic. Of course I now have 6 years to pay it off, but this is essentially going to be my last NEW CAR, expect to RETIRE around the time it's paid off!
Okay, I'll shut up now, and show you the picture.
Gonna try to enjoy my ride to and from work now!
