    T-minus 3.6 days and counting . . .

Could time move any slower this week?

Anyway, I am leaving on my Valkyrie Saturday (in the wee hours . . . kind-of O-dark-thirty time) for thirty-one days on the road. My ultimate destination is Alaska, though I am starting out in the wrong direction so I can buy dinner for a good friend (heck, it's only 600 miles extra!)

For those interested (many have asked believe it or not!), I will be trying to update my website with stories/logs and pictures from the road, as time and internet access permit. I will also try to post links to new updates here if I can.

So anyway, bookmark this page if you want to follow any updates I manage to get through, but please understand I intend on traveling to some sparce areas and the internet will not be my focus for this trip:

Or you can just go to http://lifeisaroad.com and click the "Alaska 2004" link on the bottom left.

    T-minus 3.5 days and counting . . .

Be safe and good luck. Were all counting on you fullfilling our fantasies for us.
When you get there you have to catch at least 1 salmon.

...and keep the rubber side down!

I hope you got a decent non-square rear tire....
I don't like those things on bikes.
Anyway, keep up updated and drooled.

Sounds like an awesome trip! I'm doing a "simple" loop July 5-11 from here out to Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park, north to Rushmore/Sturgis, east to the annual Y-Triples North Central Rally in Wisconsin, then south back home ("only" 2600 miles over 7 days). I can't wait!! This is kind of the trip I promised myself I would do in Curt Marsh's memory after buying his "other" 1100 (not his good one...the basket case in his shed).

Ride safe...and watch out for idiots around KC on your way north, especially that fool on his ratty ol' H.

Good luck on the trip Dan, I truely wish you well. I wish I had known late last year when I had to make up this years schedule and I could have tagged along a way with you. Alaska is still on my list. Maybe next year we can ride to Hawaii??

I look forward to your reports, it will help me to formulate my trip someday.

What kind of miles you looking at for this trip?

Has anybody else checked in at Dan's webpage? He has made it to Alaska, but let's just say he didn't do it the easy way.......

              Alaska

Yes I have been following it. Some neat stories of incidents on the road. I think Dan's mind can be very creative on some of those long stretches in the saddle. At the moment it looks like he is trapped in Fairbanks waiting for the forest fire season to end. He may not make it home till Sept. From the news reports it is a very serious situation up there. Maybe he should go on and take a cruise ship back to Vancouver/Victoria/Seattle. Tee Hee
Keep on trucking Daniel, your trip is only 1/2 over. Can't imagine pushing on through a 1000 miles of smoke.
only to turn around and ride back through it for another 1000 or more.

                Wow

Looks like Dan's trip has been very eventfull so far. I liked the story about the little old lady. I probably would have done the same thing or close to it. I wish I had the time to check out Alaska , looks like a cool place. Well Dan, I wish you luck on the rest of your trip. Thanks for the updates. Keep em comming.

                  Daniel Resurfaces

After Dan checked into that smoke filled hotel in Fairbanks we did not hear anymore from him. I was getting worried, 3/4 days and no posting from Dan. I was thinking that he got way laid Or something.
Well he just put up an update. He is in Bozeman Mont. Only about 2000 miles south of his last post. I guess that long spring that stretches between himself and his wife in Texas is about to snap him home.
Pretty impressive shot of running on gravel at 75 per on a bike that likely goes 850 with the load it is carrying plus Dan's 300 lbs.
I would think that after all of those hours he has spent in the saddle over the last couple of weeks that he is complete control of that big Honda.
Truck on Dan, the Misses is calling.

                      Home Safe!

Not really perception Daniel. I have the same spring. A week, 10 days out and if I try and go in any direction besides home it starts to draw pretty tight and yanks me home.
Congratulations on a safe, successful ride. You Texans are always bragging about the size of Texas. A lot of the rest of us know better. The North West is HUGE. We can also ride for many many miles without having to worry about traffic. Just wildlife that is so unpredictable. (as you now know)
