  • New Reason to Wear a Helmet

    It's the darndest thing.

I was riding ~60MPH on Monday on rural road, enjoying the beautiful 70 degree, sunny, but windy day.

    I never saw it coming.

    WHAM!

Something banged my helmet so hard it nearly stunned me. In less than 50 msec, my thoughts were, "Geez, was that a 3" rock?...No didn't see anything...must have come from above....maybe a tree branch?"

I repositioned my helmet, expecting it to be broken, but it seemed OK.

I turned around found I had, in fact, been hit in the upper forehead with a tree branch about 1.5-2" diameter and 2' long.

Another time the helmet probably saved me (not the first).

        Pheasant

hit the windshield of my truck, turned the entire thing into cracked ice.
Months earlier one flew right by my face shield on the freeway, missed me.
Judging from the trucks damage this bird could have killed me doing 70mph. on the bike.
Get a comfy helmet and wear it !!!!!
Did I mention the giant bumble bee, uhnother story.

There was a few years ago where I was riding a few days without a helmet in the Summer. When I crashed the other year, it made me realize never-ever again would I ride without one. Good post Mike! Nothing wrong with a reminder here and there!
