Drat, there goes a perfectly good conspiracy theory.
But that is a nice '78 on eBay and the '80G tank looks immaculate!

It's a whole bike but I don't have any pics of it up here. Kat may have one. lol I sent one to her a while back. I got it for $150 bucs from the local shop after they robbed it for electrical parts...but then found out they hacked the wire harness instead of unplugging things. I had everything I needed setting in the parts pile..I thought. I thought I had it all fixed and was ready to move on to the brakes and signals and be done but electrical gremlins are everywhere. I need an 80 standard wire harness. When I get out of this wheelchair and can lift things again it shouldn't take long. It had great compression and Ole's custom cycle already set me up with a fresh set of carbs. Gotta love Ole. My tank is lined and I had just dropped a new old stock set of petcocks in it and cleaned the hell out of the old fuel gauge.

XS11lover,
If you suspect you passed out I would suggest you have your doctor check it out. IF you had a mini stroke there will be evidence in your brain.
Get well soon. Glad you survived.

I don't know....closer inspection of the sidestand looks like there's a small bend just above where the kick out pick is welded to it. Hitting the ground in a stiff arm type impact may not have caused any particular damage to the stand....the impact force would have been linear/in line with the stand shaft just pushing the frame and rear wheel UP off the ground.
IF he had just passed out while riding, then at 50mph the bike would have just kept on going straight until it rolled onto the shoulder, not necessarily get SLAMMED down on it's left side like it did! The side stand is very strong....it can hold up my 700+lb machine with just a little flexing/bending, so my money is still on the sidestand left down and kicking the rear wheel out.

You may have something there, T.C. We had a guy fall asleep a few days ago here in California on the I-15 and he got chased for miles.
I zoomed and cropped xs11lover's side stand, then took a couple of pictures of the ones on my bikes:

Good Heavens, Scott!
Do something about that center stand
Shameful
It does look like the side stand took a hit... or a drag
I'm hoping it was the kickstand. The thought of you (Garrett) passing out for no apparent reason is scarier than the accident
Keeping those positives going for you
How ya healing?

If I can make at least one person smile, or pee their pants a little, or maybe spit out their drink; then my day is not wasted.
Yeah that could be it. It's not like i've never forgot it. I have no memory of any of it from the concussion. I did have a cat scan and it showed only the head and neck trauma from the concussion. I guess I'm moving forward but when I do get down there I will be checking it out for myself. I'm a polisher and should see the change in the side stand...

After talking with the Drs about how I got my injuries, looking the bike over and the marks on the road this is what I think really happened.
I got a cramp, stood up, like I do a lot of the time after pulling out with my low bars and low seat. and my left foot peg broke. That started an ugly chain of events. My foot slammed down into the street fracturing my knee from the upward stress. then I slammed down on the tank and gauges. My broken chest isn't top to bottom from flexing it was more like a punch. The bike crashed down on the left front side and my right calf was stabbed by my foot brake. When the bike hit the bank I did a flip and hit my head giving me a concussion and back while the bike shot out to the side. That covers it all and is the only explanation I can come up with. I still don't remember anything. There isn't anything else wrong with the bike. The bottom of the kickstand isn't even scratched but that foot peg, that's made to fold sure is broken down while the shifter and rest of that area are scratch free. The end...or at least that's what I'm going with.

The important question is, how is the recovery going? Maybe you'll never remember the wreck. I crashed last year and hit my head. I have no memory of the accident. Maybe it's better that way.
I guess it goes to show, we need to be careful with some of these old parts and bikes. Some NDT would probably be appropriate, though too costly for most.

Thanks, I'm doing well. I hope to go back to work in 2 weeks. I've been thinking about getting on a bike again but I'll have to finish my standard first. That will give me some time to get my head right. Feel better Ben, it's a risk reward world...you'll know what's good for you.
