Going down through no fault of your own really SUCKS however I`m glad that things didn`t turn out worse for you or your girl. Many of us have " been there , done that" myself included .....4 months in hospital ( me ) was the ****s and hopefully you`re back on your bike soon ....just as it should be !

Hey Scott/3phase,

This shows the sidestand in use, still intact complete with spring.


He doesn't say where THIS DEEP GROOVE is, but there's not skids near it, just a serious GOUGE in the road like where the footplate of the sidestand could have hit/dug in!?



And this image is quite telling, yep it's slightly uphill and on a LEFT HAND turn/curve, and no signs of OIL anywhere.



Will be curious to hear what the Highway Patrol comes up in "their" investigation.
Sure is starting to sound more like it was a sidestand kick out that caused it, especially if they were able to ROLL the bike up onto the truck, wouldn't be able to with frozen middle drive unit.

After seeing this....Scott, are you sure you want to keep your XJ's sidestand safety switch BYPASSED? Perhaps just an idiot warning light on the dash instead of it keeping the bike from starting/running.

It got him to laugh and that was the main idea. And notice that the key area on the side stand that would have hit the road is ju-u-ust below the board so isn't visible in the picture!

I had the engine die as I pulled out of the driveway. It couldn't be restarted because of the XJ's relay Rubic's Cube so I'll take my chances and refer to Post #31.

Post #40 above, center stand appears to be low hanging in the up position? Could have been damaged in the wreck tho. However the side stand survived so I would suspect the centerstand would too. Could center stand have touched?

Never-ever have I had the center stand touch. The side stand I've left down a few times.

I've hit the center stand but only laid over in a left turn. It instantly lifted and rocked my rear tire over a few feet. There was a gouge mark in the road, road rash on the center stand and a load of rubber nickels for a while afterward. I try not to do that.

Well the boy sent me some pics of the kickstand and said it look no different than it ever did....if the kick stand wasn't down I'm thinking I must have passed out. I'm starting to think I'll never know for sure. On a side note did you all see that beautiful 78 xs11 on e-bay? 6,500 miles and looking like new?

I did notice my left foot peg is gone. Oh well, don't tell my Mom but I'm ready to finish the 80 standard project and get back out there....see around July.
