I'm asking cuz I know that one of you here knows, Are the 80 and 81 xs11 standard wire harnesses the same? I have an 80 and I need one but all I can find is an 81.

    harness

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question but I have an 80 wire harness if you need one. It has been altered to be used on a vetter fairing, but I think that change is just to the headlight and turnsignal connectors which is easily reversible. I'm sure someone here knows more about that than I do and can advise you. PM sent

'80 and '81 will work. I don't have a book handy, as I'm at work but the big difference is one or two extra connections on the '81. The mods needed to make it work should be small and easy.

sorry, I misread that...Mine is from an 80 special, not a standard. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I'm pretty sure the harnesses are the same, Special-to-Special and Standard-to-Standard.

The only electrical change was to the ignition system when they eliminated the mechanical advance but that's inside the 4RO TCI, not the harness.
