My new bike which is a 79F has a lot of paint chips on the indigo blue paint job. The bike has very low mileage I hate to repaint! Do any of you have a suggestion on touch up paint? Is there an automotive paint that might be a close match? I once had an 86 Thunderbird the dark metallic blue color and I was thinking of that, but wanted to turn to the experts!

Not this Indigo Blue
I have had two Yamaha XS's that are/were Indigo Blue, and the Yamaha Indigo Blue is much darker then some paint colors that are sold as Indigo Blue.
I put this on my XS11SF:

It's much brighter then the Yamaha Indigo Blue- and I wanted it that way.
So, you are better off to go by your judgment or someone's helpful experience than by the name of the color.
Sorry I can't recommend something.-Mike

Best option is go to an automotive paint store, outside in the sunlight, match using a color chart, and have them mix up an aresol can....which will also have a nice spray pattern nozzle.
BTW, what we call indigo blue here stateside is NOT even close to either the 79 or 81!Last edited by motoman; 11-03-2016, 12:21 PM.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

Don't know if this'll help, but here's what I did. I took my seat and seat cowl in to my local body shop ( Honor Collision in N. MI) and had Chris mix up some paint that was an exact match for my 'Indigo Blue' '79F. I had tried the 'match' that was posted on this site ( a Toyota color or something) that was fairly close, and used it to fill a few chips in the tank. Anyhoo, moral of the story here, is if you can bring the tank in to a shop, they can do a great job matching up an exact color, and for a few bucks, help you get it looking good.79 F
