XS Folks,
Went to the Barber Motorsports Vintage Festival yesterday in Birmingham, Alabama. I've never seen so darn many motorcycles in one place in my entire life! LITERALLY TENS OF THOUSANDS OF MOTORCYCLES!
Unfortunately, if you wanted to see an XS1100 you were out of luck! Unless you could find where Marty & Brent Parked?
It wasn't an inexpensive event to attend and the "BASIC" entry fee was $40 per person and doesn't provide any seating for viewing the racing action or entry into any of the race prep areas. Full passes were in excess of $80ea.
Nancy & I went to see what all the talk was about and to visit the vendor areas.
It seemed like MILES of vendors selling parts for every possible machine (except the XS1100). I did get a LITTLE lucky and scored a couple sets of XS1100 carbs for prices that would make most XS11 folks crazy......
The '78's are VERY dirty but pristine at a mere $20 I couldn't pass 'em up. They may be headed for Flea-Bay? The later model set has busted float posts on the #1 and missing all the carb bowls but is otherwise decent so at $10 for that set the #4 will find a home on my Duck replacing the incorrect unit there and #2 (?) will very likely find a home with Marty.
After scouring the entire vendor area, I found little or nothing else XS11 related.
I was way over my monthly motorcycle spending budget before we went to this event.... I'm going to be in the dog house for months!
But it was fun and it's only once a year!
Sincerely,
KURT
