  • Dented header pipe robbing your power?

Turns out the answer is, probably not - assuming a motorcycle motor works the same way as a car motor. I thought this was pretty amazing - Engine Masters Exhaust Header Bash
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

'79 XS11 Standard, Jardine 4/1, Dyna DC1-1 Coils, 145 mains, 45 pilots, plastic floats - 25.7mm, XV920 fuel valves, inline fuel filters, speed bleeders, Mikes XS pods, spade-type fuse block, fork brace, progressive fork springs/shocks, manual petcocks, 750 FD, Venture cam chain tensioner, SS brake lines

in the muffler will cause engine breathing problems. I know different but still a restriction just more severe.

BA80 has a good story to tell about muffler restrictions, and that's an entirely different story. Stick a potato in your tail pipe and it won't run right. But as far as header dents - it seems they just don't really matter. Which is good 'cause a lot of XS's have a ding or two in the pipes.

Anyway, I just thought it was pretty fascinating to see the actual dyno numbers as they beat the crap out of those poor headers.

in the muffler can be seen from the outside, swelled rings around the circumference of the muffler through the chrome outer shell. The more pronounced the more restriction up to the point the engine can't be tuned enough to overcome the restriction.
Those guys looked to be having way too much fun smashing the headers.

By the end of the video they were getting pretty good at it, too. Musta been somebody else's headers... which does kind of sound like fun. [insert evil grin here]
