Hey, he's sitting down! The bars are designed for him to be standing on the seat!!
In California, that would get your bike off the road REALLY QUICKLY if the CHP saw it.

      Riding position

Wisconsin too, must not be more than shoulder height, unless you have a Harley. Seems they are all exempt from the laws.

Not only are the bars long, but he has really tall risers as well. Check out the exhaust.

I just don't get it. How do you have any control?
An acquaintance of mine went to Sturgis this year and came back with a bike with hangars. Not to this extreme but tall enough. I've seen it in the parking lot once.... His riding has been extremely limited.

You are right about Harleys being exempt. When I lived in Wisconsin I did see a harley that the bars were just a little above the riders head. Not nearly as high as in the pic though.

                    But have you tried them?

I'm not trying to start a huge debate here because I know this group is pretty commited to their view points. Obviously the original picture is the ridiculous end of the spectrum, and there's really no excuse for that. However, I've had a couple Harley's myself, one was a rigid panhead with drag bars and the other was a dyna with hangers. I'm a big fella, and the cockpit on both bikes was much more relaxed than the XS. With forward controls and apes, I spent many many continuous miles and hours enjoying the dyna on the west coast. Is a bike like that ideal for getting in the twisties? No. But that's not what it was built for, however it was very comfortable doing a day trip from San Diego to Vegas in a day.

Much like sushi, give it a shot before you condemn it. You may not like it, but then again, maybe you will.

Years ago we called them ape hangers now with all the sensitivity I would not call those ape hangers as that would definitely be an insult to the intelligence of apes. There are people who have them a little high but can still maintain control. I can see where it would take very little problem with the road and down that person goes and probably the poor person behind runs over him. I say poor person behind intentionally omitting any empathy for the rider as I'd have none.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

Where do you get clutch/throttle cables and brake hoses measured in fathoms?

Meh... I'm pretty adept at crashing with just standard bars too.. lol. Sounds like size envy.
