A way with words. 
Most people have a problem with cognitive dissonance and 'Teflon Brain' aka "Nothing sticks." Yes, the planet has gotten warmer by a degree or two Fahrenheit and that is a lot of heat!
NASA published some hard data from, you know, high-dollar thermometers we put in Earth orbit or actually sent to Mars that show the ice caps on Mars are shrinking. I can't find the links right now but it's also been happening on a few of the moons around Jupiter and Saturn and no one knows why. One thing's for sure, it isn't SUVs, air conditioners, or hair spray and since it's happening system-wide there's not one blessed thing we on Earth can do about it and it's driving people wild trying to figure it out.
The data doesn't 'fit' with the modern mindset so twenty seconds after hearing or reading about it most people go into denial or just let it slide right off the back of their heads and go right back to trying to saving the planet as if the data was created by some kind of anti-global-warming cabal. If the cabal can melt polar ice on nearby planets and the moons around the gas giants, shouldn't they at least get a little respect?
