Yeah, dinosaurs did it. Kidding aside, I'm glad no one was hurt.

There is some seriously gnarly energy in even a tiny earthquake and they can be really bad bad news. Sand or loose soil can temporarily liquefy and swallow stuff. If you live near the edge of a valley floor or some rocks or other underground formations then the waves do the same thing as the ice sheet on the shorelines in, "Ice Road Truckers."

Just like it does in water, a traveling wave in soil 'breaks' on rocks or any kind of obstruction that tries to make it change speed or direction, sometimes faster than the speed of sound, and it can split open and shatter but it's miles and miles across and deep, not a just couple of yards.

Haven't heard of anyone hurt. Actually, I live close enough to a big rail yard that I thought it was just a train at first............until the fridge started rocking.

Did you get any earthquake lightning? Imaging two really big pieces of nylon carpeting rubbing together at high speed and you'll get the idea, it's worried me more than the 'quakes a few times.

You'd have noticed it so it didn't happen, at least where you were.

Noooo, the real question is who can we sue and make pay???

Felt it here in Kansas city as well. Shook the house for a good 30 seconds or so.

If you get sued you always pay and you always loose however sometimes the person suing recovers. The only guaranteed winner in a suit is a lawyer. And Greg you are correct there is no proof about fracking just like there was no proof about asbestos for many years. It all depends on the knowledge and quality of engineering effort a company puts into something that determines the safety. Like anything else there are good companies Fracking and there are also criminals drilling.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

Well... guess only time will tell if the fraking and saltwater injection wells contribute to the quakes.

The powers that be have shut down all of it for a 750 mile radius... Or 23 well sites.

Interesting part was when the geologists warned that suddenly stopping the process could contribute to an even larger one... Hmmmnnn....

We live with quakes all the time over here. A 7.1 last friday, a 5.8 before that, a 5.9 a few days before that. We live right on the edge of the Pacific Fault so theyre a fact of life for us. Most of the time theyre just an 'earth moving' moment, although not a three minute one , but occasionally we get a decent one that does some damage, like Christchurch a few short years ago.

We dont have any large scale fracking or salt water injection going on, and i dont believe that contributes anyway, we're just unlucky enough to live in an active volcanic region. In the bigger scheme of things, fracking is small potatoes when talking about the entire earths surface, and faults that run from tens to hundreds of kilometres deep.
1980 SG. (Sold - waiting on replacement)

History shows that Oklahoma had a history of only having very minor earth tremors like many places till the major new drilling and injection started.

                              https://www.theguardian.com/world/2008/nov/03/indonesia

Now there are things beyond mans knowledge like the earth passing threw a part of the Galaxy its not been threw for many thousands of years who knows what we are in for. I am sure the government has a plan to spend enough money to protect you. Just this week they saved us from soap.
